What Is New for 2027
Five changes, all of them verified by reading the 2027 documentation against the 2026 documentation line by line, because Chevrolet marks nothing as new.

Every 2027 Dually Rides on an 18-Inch Wheel
In 2026 a Work Truck or LT dually came on a 17-inch painted steel wheel with an LT235/80R17E tire. For 2027 that wheel, that tire, the matching spare and both dually wheel trims are deleted from the documentation entirely. There is no 17-inch dually any more.

What has not changed: there is no 20-inch or 22-inch wheel on a dually, in either model year, on any trim. The big-wheel look is a single-rear-wheel thing and it always has been.
Worth knowing if you are shopping used against new
A 2026 Work Truck or LT dually and a 2027 one do not look the same at the wheel, and they do not take the same tire. That matters for two practical reasons: matching a spare across a two-truck fleet, and what a trade is worth when the wheel is no longer the current one.

Weight Ratings for 2027, and a Window-Sticker Trap
Gross vehicle weight rating is the only weight figure the 2027 documentation publishes, and it moved in one direction: up, on every single-rear-wheel model.

The trap: recycled option codes
Ten of the 2026 weight rating codes are gone for 2027 and four new ones appear. That part is ordinary. What is not ordinary is that four codes survive from 2026 but now describe a different model or a different engine.
So a code read off a window sticker or an old window sticker from a different year cannot be interpreted with the wrong model year's reference. If you are comparing two trucks a year apart, or checking a used truck against a chart you saved, read each one against its own year. We keep both years on hand and will do it with you.
What the higher single-rear-wheel ceiling means for the dually decision: the gap narrowed at the top of the single-rear-wheel range, and the dually still sits well above it at 14,000 lb. A higher rating means the truck and its load may legally weigh more. It does not tell you payload, because 2027 curb weights are not published, and it does not tell you a tow rating.
The single-rear-wheel versus dually decision, worked on published 2026 figures
Two V8s and an Allison 10-Speed
For 2027 the Silverado 3500 HD is offered with a V8 with direct injection and variable valve timing, gasoline (L8S), or the Duramax turbo-diesel V8, B20-diesel compatible (L6P). Both come with an Allison 10-Speed automatic. Chevrolet publishes no output figures for either engine for 2027, so this page prints none.
The axle pairing is unchanged, and so is the diesel equipment content. What did change is where you can put the diesel: the Duramax is no longer offered on a 2WD Crew Cab or a 2WD Double Cab pickup for 2027. If you want a diesel in those cabs, it is 4WD. A 2WD Regular Cab keeps the engine.
If you need published engine output, use the 2026 trucks, where every figure is printed and attached to a configuration. The 2026 engine section is here. Do not carry those numbers onto a 2027 truck: both engine codes changed, and a code change is exactly where assuming carryover produces a wrong answer.
Four Trims for 2027
Work Truck, LT, LTZ and High Country, with the same availability rules as 2026. There is still no Custom and no ZR2 on the one-ton; those live on the Silverado 2500 HD and stop there.
The Work Truck still covers every model code in both 2WD and 4WD. The LT is still 4WD only. LTZ and High Country are still 4WD Crew Cab trucks. What moved at each rung for 2027 is adaptive cruise arriving as standard equipment, and on a dually, the wheel.
Ordering a Dually for 2027
The rule is the same as it has been: a dually is a long bed truck with the 14,000 lb gross vehicle weight rating. It is not a trim, and all four trims can be built that way, right up to a High Country.
And the barred list is still barred. For 2027, as for 2026, ordering dual rear wheels rules out the Z71 Off-Road Package and its protection variant, Trail Boss, the Z71 Chrome Sport Edition, Midnight Edition, the LTZ Premium packages, the Duramax and Appearance group, the Protection Package, the Alaskan Snow Plow Special Edition, the rear wheelhouse liners and the tailgate audio accessory on an LT. Hill descent control travels with the Z71 package, so a dually cannot have that either.
Stars and Steel is not on the 2027 barred list for the simple reason that it does not exist in 2027. If you wanted that truck, the 2026 order bank is the only place it was ever available, and it was barred from a dually there too.

Towing and Payload for 2027
The 2027 documentation prints no trailering pages, no specifications pages and no dimensions pages. There is nothing to quote, so we quote nothing. That is a statement of fact rather than an apology, and it applies to every dealer page you will read this year, whether they say so or not.
Here is what to do instead, and it is better practice anyway. Every one of these trucks leaves the factory with a Trailering Information Label and a gross vehicle weight rating label in the driver door jamb. Those two labels are the rating for your truck, with its exact cab, bed, drive, engine, axle and packages. They outrank any chart, including ours.
The 2026 tables describe the same hardware, and they are a useful reference for the shape of the range. They are not a substitute, because the weight rating inputs changed for 2027 and the engine codes changed with them. Read them as context, not as your truck's rating. The 2026 towing tables are here.

Max Trailering and the Capability Packages
The Max Trailering Package carries over with identical prerequisites: Work Truck trim, the 2WD Regular Cab long bed dually with the 14,000 lb rating, the Duramax, the 18-inch polished forged wheel, and one of the two Work Truck convenience packages. It is still not available with a Double Cab, the bed delete or the sprayed liner.
What we cannot tell you is what it does for 2027, because no rating is published. In 2026 it moved the gooseneck figure on that Regular Cab truck and it left conventional towing alone. Whether those numbers repeat is not something we will guess at.
Everything else carries over and is available to order: gooseneck and fifth-wheel prep on all four trims, the hitch ball kit, the trailer wiring provision, camper springs, snow plow prep, power take-off, dual alternators, the vehicle interface module, the upfitter switches, high idle and the bed delete.
Trailering Equipment and Cameras
Unchanged for 2027, and still strong as standard equipment. Every trim gets the trailering equipment package, the Trailering Information Label, hitch guidance and an integrated trailer brake controller without ordering anything.
Above that: hitch guidance with the overhead hitch view, the in-vehicle trailering app with trailer profiles and a pre-departure checklist, trailer tire pressure sensors, the bed view camera, HD surround vision, provisions for an accessory trailer camera, and trailer side blind zone alert. Those arrive through the safety package on LT and LTZ and are standard content on a High Country, with a Regular Cab omitting several of the camera items. The trailering mirror ladder runs from manual-folding black through power, heated, power-folding and body-colour versions.
Safety and Tech for 2027
The quotable 2027 upgrade, and a genuinely useful one on a work truck that tows: adaptive cruise control is standard on all four trims, and conventional cruise control is deleted from the option list entirely. On a Work Truck running a hundred miles of Highway 12 behind a load, that is the best change in the whole model year.
The standard driver assistance content carries over, along with the safety alert seat. The technology package, the screens, the driver clusters and the seven-speaker Bose are unchanged. The brake system option renumbers, and the tire carrier lock is deleted. That is the whole list.
Cab, Bed and Tailgate
The same eight model codes across Regular, Double and Crew Cab in 2WD and 4WD, with the same rule that catches people: there is no Double Cab standard bed. A Double Cab is a long bed truck.
The bed is the Durabed with the corner step in the bumper and the side step behind the rear wheel, and the sprayed liner is available. The tailgate menu runs from the plain gate through the power up-and-down gate to the Multi-Flex, and a bale bed or flatbed order deletes the tailgate. One content edit for 2027 sits inside the second convenience package; we will walk it with you at the order stage.
No dimension figures appear on this page because the 2027 documentation prints none — no wheelbase, no overall length, no bed volume, no body width. The 2026 buyers guide has all of them for the same body.
About chassis cabs, again
Neither the 2026 nor the 2027 Chevrolet documentation for this truck covers a chassis cab, so we publish no cab-to-axle length and no upfit body claim in either year. Ordering the bed delete on a long bed truck and finishing it with a body builder is the path, and we would rather have that conversation with your builder in the room than guess on a web page.

Colours and Interiors for 2027
The same seven colours in the same two trim groups, with the same footnotes. The only change is that Polar White Tricoat has lost its new-for-this-year flag and is simply part of the High Country palette now.
Work Truck and LT: Summit White, Black, Sterling Gray Metallic, Lakeshore Blue Metallic and Red Hot, with Cypress Gray on the LT only. LTZ and High Country: Summit White, Black, Sterling Gray Metallic, Lakeshore Blue Metallic and Radiant Red Tintcoat, with Cypress Gray on the LTZ only and Polar White Tricoat on the High Country only. Red Hot is not offered on the LTZ or the High Country.
Interiors follow the trim, from cloth on the Work Truck through to the full leather treatment on the High Country. As always on a Chevrolet order sheet, only the Chevrolet colour names exist — several of these paints are sold under different names by the other GM brand on our lot, and mixing them up gets a truck built wrong.
Ordering for a Dakota Winter
Snow plow prep is available on all four trims for 2027, and it is available on a dually — one of the few capability items that is. The alternator menu runs from the standard unit up through the high-output alternator included with the Duramax to the dual alternator option. The block heater and the winter grille cover come with the diesel. The automatic four-wheel-drive transfer case is available on the upper trims, and the rear differential is the automatic locking type across the range.
The High Country plow catch, unchanged for 2027
On a High Country, snow plow prep needs the Z71 package alongside it — and a dually cannot have the Z71 package. So a High Country dually cannot be a plow truck. If a blade is in the truck's future, start at Work Truck or LT and save yourself the discovery.
The practical advice has nothing to do with the model year: order the winter truck in September. Plow prep, the dual alternator and the heavier electrical content are order-bank items, and a truck that arrives in January without the mount has missed the season it was bought for.
How It Stacks Up
There is no complete 2027 rating set on file for this truck, and none for the F-350 or the Ram 3500 either. So a 2027 cross-shop is an equipment conversation, not a numbers one, and anybody presenting it as a numbers one is using last year's figures.
On equipment, the 2027 Chevrolet argument is adaptive cruise standard on every trim including the work truck, gooseneck and fifth-wheel prep available across the whole range, and a dually you can order in any of the four trims. If you run a 2026 dually and want the second truck to match, tell us and we will look for a 2026.
What is the 2027 towing rating?
Not published. The 2027 documentation contains no trailering, specifications or dimensions pages at all, so there is no figure to quote and we will not invent one. The Trailering Information Label in the driver door jamb of the actual truck is the rating for that truck, and it is standard equipment on every one of them. If you need a published number today, buy a 2026.
Did the dually weight rating change?
No. Every dually is still 14,000 lb. What rose is the single-rear-wheel side, across the whole range, topping out at 12,700 lb on a 4WD Crew Cab long bed with the Duramax. The gap narrowed at the top of the single-rear-wheel range and the dually still sits well above it.
Can I order a Z71 dually for 2027?
No, and the list is the same as 2026. The Z71 Off-Road Package, Trail Boss, the Z71 Chrome Sport Edition, Midnight Edition, the LTZ Premium packages and the Protection Package are all unavailable with dual rear wheels. Hill descent control travels with Z71, so a dually cannot have that either. A Silverado 3500 HD dually is a plain truck by design in both model years.
Is the Duramax still available on a 2WD Crew Cab?
Not for 2027. The Duramax is no longer offered on a 2WD Crew Cab or a 2WD Double Cab pickup. It remains available in 4WD across the range and on a 2WD Regular Cab. If a 2WD diesel crew cab is what you wanted, a 2026 is the last one that can be built.
Is adaptive cruise really standard on a Work Truck?
Yes, on all four trims for 2027, and conventional cruise control is deleted from the option list. On a fleet truck that spends its day on Highway 12 behind a load, that is the most useful change in the model year and it costs nothing extra.
