Does the Sierra 2500 HD AT4X tow less than the AT4?
Yes, at the top end. The AT4X cannot be ordered with the Max Trailering Package, so a Duramax AT4X tops out at 18,500 pounds conventional and 17,300 pounds gooseneck, while a Duramax AT4 with Max Trailering is rated 20,000 pounds conventional and 20,800 pounds gooseneck. The AT4X AEV Edition drops further, to 18,400 pounds conventional and 14,800 pounds gooseneck with the diesel, because of its steel bumpers and winch capability. If the trailer is the job, buy the AT4 or SLT with the package. Compare the AT4 and Denali.
Can you get the Sierra 2500 HD Denali Ultimate with the gas engine?
No. The Denali Ultimate comes only with the 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel and its 10-speed automatic; the 6.6L gas V8 is not offered on that trim. If you want the Denali look with the gas V8, the Denali is the trim to order, and it can be built with either engine.
What is new on the 2026 Sierra 2500 HD?
Two new paint colors and a new wheel. Coastal Dune is offered on Pro, SLE, AT4, and AT4X; Glacier White Tricoat is offered on SLT, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. The 20-inch bright-face wheel with dark pockets joins the X31 Off-Road and Protection Package, and an 18-inch spare wheel is a new option. Yes, through the In-Vehicle Trailering App, which is standard on SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate and available on the SLE with the Preferred Package. The app shows trailer tire pressure and temperature on the 13.4-inch screen once GM trailer tire pressure sensors are installed on the trailer; the sensors are an accessory we can add. Do I need a Sierra 3500 HD, or is the 2500 HD enough for my trailer?
Run two numbers. First, the loaded trailer weight against the gooseneck rating of the exact 2500 HD configuration: 19,000 pounds for a Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax, 21,500 pounds with the Max Trailering Package, and 22,390 pounds only on a Regular Cab 2WD long bed. Second, the pin weight plus everyone and everything in the cab and bed against the payload, which is 3,566 pounds on that same Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax. If either number is over, or you are regularly within 10 percent of both, the 3500 HD is the right truck and we stock it too.
