2027 GMC Sierra 2500 HD vs Ford F-250 vs Ram 2500: The Mobridge Comparison Before the Numbers Land

GMC has published the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD's equipment, and it has not published the 2027 engine output or trailer ratings. That puts anyone cross-shopping it against a Ford F-250 or a Ram 2500 this fall in an odd spot: two of the three trucks have full rating tables and the third has a parts list. We are not going to paper over that by pasting last year's GMC numbers into a new table. Short answer: on what is published, the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD holds its own. It offers a gas V8 and a B20-compatible Duramax turbo-diesel, both with an Allison 10-speed automatic, adaptive cruise control standard on every trim, ProGrade Trailering and the MultiPro tailgate from SLT up, and a top GVWR of 12,300 pounds. For the rated towing and payload comparison, the 2026 Sierra 2500 HD on our lot is fully rated, and our 2026 comparison post lays it out beside the F-250 and Ram 2500. This post is the equipment comparison, as of September 2026, for the truck you would order now. Engines and Transmissions by Name All three trucks offer a gas V8 and a turbo-diesel with a towing-grade automatic behind them. For 2027 GMC lists a gas V8 with direct injection and variable valve timing and the Duramax turbo-diesel V8, B20-compatible, each paired with the Allison 10-speed automatic. Ford's published Super Duty lineup pairs the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel and the 6.8L and 7.3L gas V8s with the 10-speed TorqShift automatic. Ram pairs the 6.7L Cummins High-Output inline-six and the 6.4L HEMI V8 with an 8-speed automatic, the TorqueFlite HD behind the Cummins. First, the engine codes are new for both V8s, and GMC has not printed displacement, horsepower, or torque for either one yet. For reference, the 2026 Duramax on our lot is rated by GM at 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque, and the 2026 gas V8 at 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft; the 2027 output will be published in the GM Trailering Guide. Second, the Allison name now sits on the gas truck's 10-speed as well as the diesel's. The Duramax still arrives with its winter kit included: engine block heater, exhaust brake, 220-amp alternator, and dual batteries, on a 3.42 axle. The gas V8 runs a 3.73 axle, and dual alternators are available on every trim for a plow or a service body. The what's new for 2027 post walks through every GMC change; the Ford and Ram engine names above come from each manufacturer's published 2026 material, and lineups change year to year, so confirm them on the window sticker of the truck you are comparing. Which Truck Comes With Adaptive Cruise Control Standard? The 2027 Sierra 2500 HD does, on every trim from the Pro work truck to the Denali Ultimate. That is new for 2027; on the 2026 truck it was standard only from the AT4 up and a package item on the SLE and SLT. For Ford and Ram, standard driver-assistance content changes by trim and model year and we have not verified the 2027 lists, so check each manufacturer's current equipment list before you count on a feature. Adaptive cruise on a work truck sounds like a comfort feature until you have driven US 12 to Aberdeen in a ground blizzard behind a grain truck you can barely see. Holding a following distance automatically, with a trailer on, earns its place here. Every 2027 Sierra HD also carries Sierra HD Pro Safety as standard: Forward Collision Alert, Following Distance Indicator, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, IntelliBeam headlamps, Lane Departure Warning, Buckle to Drive, and Automatic Emergency Braking. Above that, the Pro can take a Pro Safety Plus package with park assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert. The SLE and SLT version adds Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, and on Crew and Double Cabs the Bed View camera, HD Surround Vision, and accessory trailer camera provisions; that content is standard on the AT4 and up. Get the trim-by-trim answer on the Ford and the Ram in writing. How Does ProGrade Trailering Compare With the Ford and Ram Trailer Features? GMC's answer is cameras and a checklist; Ford and Ram lead with features that help steer the trailer. ProGrade Trailering is standard on the SLT and up and comes to the SLE with the Preferred Package. Ford names Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Onboard Scales on the F-250; Ram names Trailer Reverse Steering Control on the 2500. If backing a fifth-wheel into a slip at the Mobridge Marina is the hardest thing you do with a truck, try those on their lots before you decide. What every 2027 Sierra 2500 HD gets regardless of trim is the trailering package itself: a receiver hitch with 7-pin and 4-pin connectors, an integrated trailer brake controller, Hitch Guidance on the rear camera, trailer sway control, and the trailering information label in the driver door jamb that prints the ratings for that specific truck. Gooseneck and fifth-wheel prep is available on all seven trims and included with the Max Trailering Package. What ProGrade Trailering actually includes Hitch View, a camera view of the ball that pans, zooms, and tilts so one person can hook a gooseneck without a spotter, and the In-Vehicle Trailering App, which runs a pre-departure checklist and a trailer light test from the driver seat, tracks maintenance for each trailer you save, and reads trailer tire pressure and temperature with the accessory sensor set, standard from the SLT up and available on the SLE with the Preferred Package. Then there is the tailgate. The MultiPro tailgate is standard on the SLT and up, and it is the thing our customers mention most after a year of ownership: the inner step for climbing in with a mineral tub, the load stop for a long piece of pipe, and the standing-height work surface. Open all three tailgates. The 2027 towing and Max Trailering post covers the package that changes the frame and springs underneath all of this. The job does not change with the model year: round bales on a gooseneck flatbed, a gravel section line, and a truck that has to do it again tomorrow. Which Cabin Handles a Long Dakota Drive Best? The one you can sit in for four hours to Bismarck on SD 1806 and step out of without a sore back, and that is a seat test, not a spec test. I can tell you exactly what is in the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD cab; for the Ford and the Ram, sit in the trim you would actually order. On the GMC, the Pro is the honest work truck: vinyl floor, a 7-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 3.5-inch driver display. The SLE and up get the 13.4-inch screen with Google built-in and the 12.3-inch driver display, so navigation and voice work without a phone in the cupholder. SLT and above ride on leather, and the AT4X and Denali Ultimate add full-grain leather, 16-way massaging front seats, and the Bose 12-speaker system. The 2027 change worth knowing is that the Technology Package, a 15-inch head-up display and the Rear Camera Mirror that sees past a stock trailer, is now available on the SLT with the Preferred or Premium Package. In 2026 that was AT4 and Denali territory. For the SLE and SLT buyers who make up most of our Sierra HD sales, heated seats and a heated wheel come through the SLE Heated Package, and every Crew and Double Cab can take the power sliding rear window. What Has GMC Published for 2027, and Where Are the Rated Numbers? One number: GVWR. The 2027 Sierra 2500 HD carries a top GVWR of 12,300 pounds on a Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax with the Max Trailering Package, and the 2026 truck's top GVWR was 11,900 pounds. Everything else you would put in a towing comparison, output, conventional and gooseneck ratings, payload, and GCWR, will be published in the GM Trailering Guide for 2027, and until it is we will not print a guess. GVWR is the truck's own maximum loaded weight: truck, fuel, people, cargo, and the pin or tongue weight of the trailer, together. It is not the trailer rating and not the combined rating. A higher GVWR usually points toward more payload, but payload is GVWR minus curb weight, and GMC has not published 2027 curb weights either, so that arithmetic cannot be done honestly yet. The 2027 Sierra 2500 HD buyers guide lays out the full GVWR menu by cab, bed, and engine. If you need rated numbers this fall, use the rated truck. The 2026 Sierra 2500 HD on our lot is rated by GM at up to 20,000 pounds conventional and 22,390 pounds gooseneck, properly equipped, and the 2026 buyers guide has the configuration-by-configuration tables. The 2026 Sierra 2500 HD vs F-250 vs Ram 2500 comparison puts those ratings beside the Ford and Ram figures from their own published towing material, dated. Whichever truck you land on, the trailering information label in the driver door jamb is the final word on what it is rated to carry and pull. Why we are not printing 2027 numbers The 2027 engine codes are new for both V8s and the GVWR ceiling moved, and either normally moves trailer ratings. Carrying the 2026 figures forward would be a guess dressed up as a spec. If you see a 2027 Sierra 2500 HD towing number on another site, ask where it came from. How to Trade a Ford or Ram In on a 2027 Sierra 2500 HD at Mobridge We take F-250s and Ram 2500s in trade every month, and since Beadle Auto Group sells Ford trucks as well, we know what a clean Super Duty is worth. Here is how the swap goes at 2200 US Hwy 12. Bring the truck and its hardware: the gooseneck ball, the fifth-wheel hitch if it is removable, the second key, and the service records. A documented history appraises better. Decide between the rated 2026 on the lot and a 2027 order: if you need the truck before calving or a published tow rating today, a 2026 in the yard answers both. If you can wait, order the 2027 for the higher GVWR ceiling and standard adaptive cruise. Spec the order around the trailer: engine, cab and bed, the Max Trailering Package if a gooseneck is in the picture, Snow Plow Prep if a blade is, and dual alternators if the truck runs a service body. Get pre-qualified while the order is in: a pre-qualification now means the paperwork is done when the truck lands. Watch the window: an order placed this fall typically builds and ships over the winter; ask us for the current order-bank window rather than planning around a date nobody can promise. Read the label at delivery: before the first trip to the sale barn, compare the trailering information label in the driver door jamb to your loaded trailer and pin weight, as you would on any brand. Is the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD the Right Order for You? Worth it if Skip it (buy the rated 2026, or look harder at the others) if You want the Allison 10-speed behind either engine and adaptive cruise standard on a work-truck trim ProGrade Trailering, Hitch View, and the MultiPro tailgate are features you would use every week You can wait for a winter build and a published 2027 rating before the trailer goes on You want the head-up display and Rear Camera Mirror on an SLT You need a published tow and payload rating in hand this fall You need the truck before the order bank can deliver it Ford's Pro Trailer Backup Assist or Ram's Trailer Reverse Steering Control is the one thing you will not give up Your trailer already sits at the top of the three-quarter-ton class and the 3500 HD is the safer answer Key Takeaways The 2027 Sierra 2500 HD offers a gas V8 with direct injection and variable valve timing and a B20-compatible Duramax turbo-diesel V8, each with the Allison 10-speed automatic; Ford uses the 10-speed TorqShift, Ram an 8-speed. Adaptive cruise control is standard on all seven 2027 Sierra HD trims; for the F-250 and Ram 2500, check each manufacturer's current equipment list. ProGrade Trailering and the MultiPro tailgate are standard from the SLT up; Ford's Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Onboard Scales and Ram's Trailer Reverse Steering Control are the features to try on their lots. GMC has published one 2027 capability number, a top GVWR of 12,300 pounds; output, towing, payload, and GCWR are still to be published, and the rated comparison lives on the 2026 truck. Whatever you buy, the trailering information label in the driver door jamb is the rating that counts, and every published rating assumes a properly equipped truck. Frequently Asked Questions Does the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD use an Allison transmission with both engines? Yes. For 2027 GMC lists the Allison 10-speed automatic with both the gas V8 and the Duramax turbo-diesel V8, and the Pro and SLE can be ordered with an Allison 10-speed with an integrated power take-off when paired with the Duramax and 4WD. Ford's F-250 uses the 10-speed TorqShift, and the Ram 2500 uses an 8-speed automatic. Is adaptive cruise control standard on the 2027 GMC Sierra 2500 HD? Yes, on every trim, Pro through Denali Ultimate, for 2027. On the 2026 truck it was standard from the AT4 up and a package item on the SLE and SLT. We have not verified what Ford or Ram include as standard for 2027, so check each manufacturer's current equipment list. How much can the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD tow compared with the F-250 and Ram 2500? GMC has not published 2027 towing or payload ratings; the only 2027 capability number is a top GVWR of 12,300 pounds. The 2026 Sierra 2500 HD on our lot is rated by GM at up to 20,000 pounds conventional and 22,390 pounds gooseneck, properly equipped, and our 2026 comparison post sets those beside the F-250 and Ram 2500 figures. We will update this post when the 2027 GM Trailering Guide is released. Will Beadle Chevrolet GMC take a Ford F-250 or Ram 2500 in trade on a Sierra 2500 HD? Yes. We appraise any brand of heavy-duty pickup at 2200 US Hwy 12 in Mobridge, and a well-kept F-250 or Ram 2500 with service records is an easy truck for us to resell. Bring it by, or call or text 605-845-7277 for a number to plan around before you order. My Take on the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Against the F-250 and Ram 2500 I sell GMC trucks, and Beadle Auto Group sells Ford trucks, so I have sat in all three of these cabs more than most people, and there is no bad truck in this comparison. The Ford and the Ram each have a trailer feature the GMC does not, and the GMC has an Allison behind both engines, adaptive cruise on the work-truck trim, and a tailgate I would not want to give up. On equipment, the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD stands beside either of them without apologizing. What I will not do is tell you what it tows before GMC does. If you need that number to buy, the rated 2026 truck is on our lot with every rating on the label in the door. If you can order and wait, the 2027 brings a higher GVWR ceiling and a better standard-equipment list, and the ratings will follow. Either way, bring your trailer weight and your trade, and we will work it through at the desk instead of guessing on a web page. The full 2027 equipment, trims, packages, and GVWR menu are in the 2027 GMC Sierra 2500 HD buyers guide. Or stop at Beadle Chevrolet GMC at 2200 US Hwy 12 in Mobridge, or call or text 605-845-7277, and we will put a Sierra HD next to what you drive now. 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Towing and Max Trailering: The 12,300-lb GVWR, the 18-Inch Rule, and What Is Still Unpublished

If you came here for a 2027 GMC Sierra 2500 HD towing number, here is the honest answer first: GM has not published one. The 2027 ordering information we work from has no trailer ratings, no payload, and no GCWR; those will come in the 2027 GM Trailering Guide. What it does publish is the GVWR menu, and that menu moved: the top rating is now 12,300 pounds on a Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax with the Max Trailering Package, up from 11,900 pounds on the 2026 truck. It also confirms that the package itself is unchanged and that every 2027 truck already wears the 18-inch-or-larger wheels the package requires. This post covers what that GVWR number does and does not tell a rancher, what the Max Trailering Package still requires, and how to write a 2027 order so the rating lands where you need it. For the truck with numbers on it today, the rated 2026 truck on our lot is the one to plan a trailer around, and the 2026 gooseneck stock-trailer post works the math in full. View Sierra 2500 HD Inventory Get Pre-Qualified On This Page Straight answer: 2027 trailer ratings are not published yet What is published: GVWR from 10,000 to 12,300 pounds GVWR vs GCWR vs trailer rating, with a stock-trailer example Max Trailering for 2027: same hardware, same rules The 18-inch rule Standard trailering gear on every 2027 trim How to spec a 2027 order so the rating lands where you need it How Much Can the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Tow? Nobody can tell you yet, and anyone who prints a 2027 figure this fall is guessing. The 2027 ordering information lists the trims, engines, packages, wheels, and GVWR codes, and stops there; the trailering and specifications pages that carried the 2026 ratings are not in it. GM publishes trailer ratings in its Trailering Guide, and the 2027 edition has not been released. Two things make us unwilling to assume the 2026 numbers carry over. The engine codes changed, from L8T to L8S on the gas V8 with direct injection and variable valve timing and from L5P to L6P on the Duramax turbo-diesel V8, B20-compatible, with the Allison 10-speed automatic behind each. And the GVWR ceiling moved up. Either one can shift a trailer rating, so until GM prints the 2027 tables, the 2027 truck is unrated in our showroom; the what's new for 2027 post covers the engine-code change. The rated truck is the 2026. For the 2026 model year GM rates the Sierra 2500 HD at up to 20,000 pounds conventional and 22,390 pounds gooseneck, properly equipped, and the 2026 Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax most ranchers here order is rated at 19,000 pounds gooseneck, or 21,500 pounds with the Max Trailering Package. Those 2026 figures, by configuration, are in the 2026 buyers guide linked above, and the trailering information label in the driver door jamb of any truck, 2026 or 2027, is the final word for that specific unit. What Does the 2027 Guide Actually Publish? The GVWR Menu GVWR, from 10,000 to 12,300 pounds, is the one 2027 capability number GM has printed. The rating rises with cab, drive, engine, and the Max Trailering Package, and the three highest codes, 12,000, 12,150, and 12,300 pounds, are new for 2027 and belong to diesel Crew Cabs. The table lists the 4WD configurations our buyers order plus the Regular Cab; the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD buyers guide carries the full menu. 2027 Sierra 2500 HD configuration GVWR, gas V8 GVWR, Duramax GVWR, Duramax + Max Trailering Crew Cab long bed 4WD 11,350 lb 12,000 lb 12,300 lb (2027 maximum) Crew Cab standard bed 4WD 10,900 lb 11,600 lb 12,150 lb AT4X (Crew Cab standard bed 4WD) 11,150 lb 11,750 lb not offered Double Cab long bed 4WD 11,200 lb 11,900 lb not offered Double Cab standard bed 4WD 10,900 lb 11,600 lb not offered Regular Cab long bed 4WD 10,950 lb 11,400 lb 11,900 lb Regular Cab long bed 2WD 10,650 lb 11,200 lb 11,600 lb The 2WD Crew and Double Cab gas trucks sit lower, 10,850 pounds for a Crew Cab standard bed, 11,000 for a Crew Cab long bed, 10,750 and 10,900 for the Double Cabs, and the lowered 10,000-pound GVWR option is still available on every trim except the AT4 and AT4X for buyers who need to stay under a licensing threshold; it reduces towing and payload, so ask us before ordering it. The AT4X moves up too: 11,150 gas and 11,750 diesel, against 11,025 and 11,350 on the 2026 AT4X. Read the table for what it is. A higher GVWR usually means more room for payload, but payload is GVWR minus curb weight, and 2027 curb weights are not published either. We will not subtract a 2026 curb weight from a 2027 GVWR and call the result a payload. GVWR vs GCWR vs Trailer Rating: What Does Each One Limit? Three ratings, three different scales. GVWR is the most the truck itself may weigh, loaded: truck, fuel, people, gear in the bed, and the pin weight the trailer puts on it. GCWR is the most the truck and loaded trailer may weigh together. The trailer rating, conventional or gooseneck, is the most the trailer alone may weigh. A load is safe only when it clears all three, and on a three-quarter-ton with a stock trailer, the one you hit first is almost always GVWR, through payload. A stock-trailer example, for illustration, on the rated 2026 truck. Take a 28-foot aluminum gooseneck at 7,000 pounds empty with eight cows at 1,300 pounds, 17,400 pounds behind the truck, and a pin weight around 20 percent, about 3,480 pounds. On the 2026 Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax, GM's published 2026 figures are 19,000 pounds gooseneck without the package and 21,500 with it, 3,566 pounds of payload, a 2026 GVWR of up to 11,900 pounds with the package, and a 2026 GCWR of 30,000 pounds with the package. The trailer clears the 2026 tow rating with room, but the pin alone uses nearly all of the 2026 payload before the driver climbs in. That is the pattern every gooseneck buyer here runs into, and the 2026 stock-trailer post linked above works two full examples. Now the 2027 version of that example, honestly: the same Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax with the package carries a 12,300-pound GVWR code, 400 pounds above the 2026 code. We cannot tell you what that does to payload, because the 2027 curb weight is unpublished, and we cannot tell you the 2027 GCWR or trailer rating, because neither is published. What we can say is that the truck's own loaded ceiling went up, and that when the 2027 tables land, look at payload first, not the headline tow number. Numbers to replace with your own The trailer, cow, and pin weights above are illustrations. Weigh your loaded trailer and your pin at the elevator scale, then compare both to the trailering information label in the driver door jamb of the truck you are buying. Every rating on that label is for that truck, properly equipped, and it beats anything on this page. The gooseneck and fifth-wheel prep that comes with the Max Trailering Package is unchanged for 2027: hitch tray, stamped and capped bed holes, and the 7-pin connector in the bed wall. What Is in the 2027 Max Trailering Package, and Who Can Order It? The same hardware as 2026, under the same code, with the same rules. The Max Trailering Package puts the 3500 HD frame, 3500 HD rear leaf springs and shock package, and the 12-inch rear axle under a 2500 HD, and adds the spray-on bedliner and the gooseneck and fifth-wheel prep with the hitch platform, stamped and capped bed holes, and bed-mounted 7-pin connector. It is the reason the 2500 HD's highest GVWR codes exist. It requires the Duramax and 18-inch or 20-inch wheels, and it is available on the Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. It is not offered on the AT4X, on any Double Cab, with the lowered 10,000-pound GVWR option, with the bed delete, or with the extra trailering wiring harness at the rear of the bed. If you want it on a Regular Cab, it is there; if you want it on a gas truck, it is not, and that is the trade the 2026 Max Trailering Package post lays out. One practical change for a 2027 order: the base all-season 18-inch tire on the Pro and SLE is not offered with the package, so a Pro or SLE with Max Trailering will carry the all-terrain tire instead. Ask us to confirm the tire on your build; it is an easy footnote to miss. Why Does the 18-Inch Rule Matter Less on a 2027? Because there is no longer a wheel that fails it. The Max Trailering Package has always required 18-inch or larger wheels; on the 2026 truck a Pro or SLE on the standard 17-inch wheel had to step up to qualify. For 2027 the 17-inch wheel and tire are gone from the lineup. The 18-inch machined aluminum wheel is the base retail wheel on the Pro, SLE, and SLT, the fleet steel wheel is 18 inches, the AT4X rides on 18s, and everything from the AT4 up is on 20s. Two consequences. First, the package decision on a 2027 comes down to the Duramax, because the wheel prerequisite is already met on every truck we can order. Second, the 2026 GVWR and payload rows for 17-inch trucks no longer apply to anything, which is why the 2027 GVWR menu is shorter and starts higher: the 2026 floor above the lowered option was 10,050 pounds, and the 2027 floor is 10,650. This is also the clearest reason the 2027 ratings will not simply copy the 2026 ones. Wheel and tire size feed the axle ratings that feed GVWR and payload, and the base tire changed. That is not a reason to worry; it is a reason to wait for the table. If you are deciding between a rated 2026 on the lot and a 2027 order, the buy now or order a 2027 post is written for that call. What Trailering Gear Is Standard on Every 2027 Trim? The same standard set as 2026, on all seven trims: the receiver hitch with 7-pin and 4-pin connectors, the integrated trailer brake controller, Hitch Guidance on the rear camera, trailer sway control and hill start assist through StabiliTrak, the auxiliary transmission and engine oil coolers, and the trailering information label in the driver door jamb. A Pro work truck tows with the same controller as a Denali Ultimate. ProGrade Trailering, Hitch View plus the In-Vehicle Trailering App with its light test, checklist, maintenance reminders, and trailer tire pressure module, is standard on the SLT and up and comes to the SLE with the Preferred Package; the trailer tire pressure sensor set, four sensors for up to six trailer wheels, is available with it. Pro Safety Plus on the SLE and SLT adds Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, the Bed View camera for lining up a gooseneck alone, HD Surround Vision, and provisions for the accessory rear trailer camera, all standard content on the AT4 and up. New for 2027 and useful behind a trailer: adaptive cruise control is standard on every trim, so a Pro or SLE pulling a flatbed down US 83 to Pierre holds its gap without a package. The Technology Package with the Rear Camera Mirror, which shows the road behind a stock trailer instead of the trailer nose, is now available on the SLT as well. The gooseneck ball and chain kit is a dealer-installed accessory we can add before delivery on any truck with the prep. How to Spec a 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Order So the Rating Lands Where You Need It Six steps, in the order we use at the desk; the last one is the one that matters. Weigh the trailer first: loaded the way you haul, at the elevator scale, with the pin weight measured separately. Order to the trailer you own, not the one you might buy. Pick the Duramax if a gooseneck is the job: the Max Trailering Package requires it, and the highest GVWR codes only exist with it. Choose the cab and bed for the code you want: Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax with the package is the 12,300-pound GVWR truck; the standard bed with the package is 12,150; a Double Cab or an AT4X cannot take the package at all. Skip the lowered GVWR option: unless licensing requires it, because it reduces both towing and payload and blocks the package. Add the trailering visibility: Pro Safety Plus on an SLE or SLT for the blind-zone alert and Bed View camera, or the Preferred Package on an SLE for Hitch View and the Trailering App. Read the label at delivery: the trailering information label in the driver door jamb of your 2027 carries its conventional, gooseneck, payload, and GCWR figures. Compare your scale ticket to that label, not to this page. Should You Order a 2027 With the Max Trailering Package? Worth it if Skip it if You pull a gooseneck stock trailer or hay flatbed and were ordering the Duramax anyway You want the highest 2027 GVWR code for your cab and bed You want the gooseneck prep and bedliner included You can wait for the 2027 ratings before buying a bigger trailer You want the gas V8, a Double Cab, or an AT4X, none of which take it Your trailer is a bumper-pull the standard hitch handles You need a rated truck this month, which means the 2026 on the lot You need the lowered 10,000-pound GVWR for licensing Key Takeaways 2027 towing, payload, and GCWR are not published; they will appear in the 2027 GM Trailering Guide, and the rated truck today is the 2026 on our lot. GVWR is the one 2027 number GM has printed: 10,000 to 12,300 pounds, with the maximum on a Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax with the Max Trailering Package. A higher GVWR is a signal for payload, not a payload figure, because 2027 curb weights are unpublished. The Max Trailering Package is unchanged: Duramax required, 18-inch or 20-inch wheels, not on the AT4X or Double Cab. Every 2027 truck already wears 18-inch or larger wheels, so the package decision is the engine decision. Frequently Asked Questions What is the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD towing capacity? GM has not published 2027 trailer ratings; they will be released in the 2027 GM Trailering Guide, and the label in the driver door jamb of each truck carries the final figure. For the 2026 model year, GM rates the Sierra 2500 HD at up to 20,000 pounds conventional and 22,390 pounds gooseneck, properly equipped, and those 2026 figures are the ones to plan a trailer around today. What is the highest GVWR on a 2027 Sierra 2500 HD? 12,300 pounds, on a Crew Cab long bed 4WD with the Duramax and the Max Trailering Package. The Crew Cab standard bed with the same engine and package is coded at 12,150 pounds. The 2026 maximum was 11,900 pounds. GVWR is the loaded weight limit of the truck itself, not a trailer rating. Does the 2027 Max Trailering Package still require the Duramax? Yes. It requires the Duramax turbo-diesel V8 and 18-inch or 20-inch wheels, and it is available on the Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. It is not offered on the AT4X, on Double Cab models, with the lowered 10,000-pound GVWR option, or with the bed delete. Does a higher GVWR mean the 2027 has more payload? Usually, but not by a number anyone can state yet. Payload is GVWR minus curb weight, and GM has not published 2027 curb weights. The 2027 GVWR ceiling is 400 pounds above the 2026 ceiling on the same configuration, which points in the right direction; the actual payload will be on the trailering information label in the door jamb of the delivered truck. My Take on 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Towing I would rather tell you we do not have a number than hand you one that came off a listing site. What we do have is enough to write a good 2027 order: the Max Trailering Package is the same package, it still needs the Duramax, every truck already has the wheels for it, and the Crew Cab long bed with the package carries the highest GVWR code GM has ever put on a 2500 HD. If your outfit hauls a gooseneck, that is the truck to order, and the 2027 ratings will land on its door label before it lands in your yard. If you need the rated truck now, for a stock trailer you are already pulling or a fifth-wheel you have already bought, buy the 2026. It has published numbers, it is in stock, and the honest math on it is in the 2026 posts linked through this one. Either way, weigh the trailer and the pin once, and compare to the label. That step never changes. The full 2027 GVWR menu, packages, and trims are in the 2027 GMC Sierra 2500 HD buyers guide. 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Trims: AT4X, Denali Ultimate, and Why the SLT Just Got More Interesting

The 2027 GMC Sierra 2500 HD keeps all seven trims, Pro through Denali Ultimate, and at first glance the ladder looks like the truck on our lot today. Look closer and four things are specific to the new year: the AT4X wears a new 18-inch wheel code and moves to higher GVWR codes, the Denali Ultimate stays diesel-only behind the new L6P Duramax, the SLT can now be ordered with the Technology Package that used to stop at the AT4, and every trim, even the Pro, comes with adaptive cruise control and 18-inch-or-larger wheels from the factory. Short answer for the buyer who runs gravel section lines all week and pulls a fifth-wheel to Indian Creek on weekends: the AT4 or the Denali with the Max Trailering Package is still the order, the AT4X still cannot take that package, and the Denali Ultimate is the one where everything is already standard. The 2027 trailer ratings are not published yet, so this post covers the verified equipment and sends you to the 2026 AT4 vs Denali comparison for the rated numbers on the 2026 truck in the yard. View Sierra 2500 HD Inventory Get Pre-Qualified On This Page The seven-trim ladder for 2027 and what changed on each AT4X for 2027: new wheel code, 35-inch tires, and higher GVWR Denali Ultimate for 2027: Duramax standard and everything else too SLT for 2027: the Technology Package is finally on the menu Standard on every trim now Which one to order for gravel roads plus a fifth-wheel How to pick your 2027 trim in six steps What Are the Seven 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Trims, and What Changed on Each? Same seven trims, same cab and drive rules. Pro comes as a Regular, Double, or Crew Cab in 2WD or 4WD; SLE is the same three cabs in 4WD only; SLT and up are Crew Cab 4WD only, and the AT4X is standard bed only. What moved for 2027 is the equipment under each name; the table is the short version of the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD buyers guide trim section. 2027 trim Cab and drive Standard wheel What is specifically 2027 Pro Regular, Double, Crew; 2WD or 4WD 18-inch PXD aluminum retail (18-inch steel fleet only) 17-inch wheels gone; adaptive cruise standard; E85 capability dropped SLE Regular, Double, Crew; 4WD only 18-inch PXD aluminum 18-inch all-season base tire; adaptive cruise standard SLT Crew Cab 4WD 18-inch PXD on all-terrain tires Technology Package (15-inch HUD and Rear Camera Mirror) now available AT4 Crew Cab 4WD 20-inch gloss black (Q7N) Carryover content; adaptive cruise was already standard here AT4X Crew Cab 4WD, standard bed only New 18-inch wheel code (RB1) on 35-inch mud-terrains New wheel and spare codes; GVWR codes rise to 11,150 gas / 11,750 diesel Denali Crew Cab 4WD 20-inch ultra-bright, chrome inserts (Q7F) Carryover content; eligible for the new 12,000 to 12,300 GVWR codes with the Duramax Denali Ultimate Crew Cab 4WD 20-inch ultra-bright, gloss black inserts (Q7H) Duramax only, now the new L6P; HUD, massage seats, Bose 12 all standard Two engines run under all of that: the gas V8 with direct injection and variable valve timing, standard Pro through Denali, and the Duramax turbo-diesel V8, B20-compatible, available Pro through Denali and standard on the Denali Ultimate, each with the Allison 10-speed automatic. GM has not published 2027 output for either; the what's new for 2027 post covers the engine-code change and why we are not guessing. What Does the AT4X Get for 2027? The AT4X keeps every piece of hardware that made it the pasture truck of the lineup and picks up a new 18-inch wheel code, a new spare code, and two higher GVWR codes. The ZRX suspension with its 1.5-inch lift and Multimatic DSSV dampers carries over, so do the 35-inch LT305/70R18 mud-terrain tires, the driver-selectable rear e-locker, the aluminum front and steel transfer-case skid plates, and the red recovery hooks. The wheel is the odd one. GM's 2027 ordering information lists the AT4X wheel under a new code, RB1, with no description beyond the 18-inch size, so we cannot tell you yet whether it is a new design or a re-coded version of the 2026 gloss-black-accent wheel. If the look matters, ask us before you sign. Inside, nothing changed: Obsidian Rush full-grain leather, 16-way massage seats, Bose 12-speaker audio, and the 15-inch head-up display, all standard. The GVWR story is the part a Walworth County buyer should notice. For 2027 the AT4X carries an 11,150-pound GVWR code with the gas V8 and 11,750 pounds with the Duramax; the 2026 AT4X on our lot was coded at 11,025 gas and 11,350 diesel. GVWR is the truck's own loaded maximum, not a trailer rating, and because 2027 curb weights are unpublished we cannot turn that increase into a payload number. The trailering information label in the driver door jamb of the delivered truck is where the real figure lives. The AEV Edition carries over: AEV stamped-steel bumpers with cast recovery points, 18-inch AEV Salta wheels, three stamped-steel skid plates, AEV headrests and liners. It requires the block heater, deletes the red hooks, and, as in 2026, it is the AT4X that tows a little less because of the weight it carries in armor. The 2027 colors legal on an AT4X are Coastal Dune, Onyx Black, Summit White, Sterling Metallic, Volcanic Red Tintcoat, and Titanium Rush Metallic; the 2027 colors post has the full trim-by-trim matrix. The AT4X and trailers, still The Max Trailering Package is not offered on the 2027 AT4X, same as 2026, and neither is the lowered 10,000-pound GVWR option. The AT4X does take the gooseneck and fifth-wheel prep package and has the standard hitch, brake controller, and Hitch Guidance, so it will pull a trailer; it just will not pull the biggest one in the lineup. What Does the Denali Ultimate Get for 2027? The Denali Ultimate is the one trim where the engine decision is made for you: the Duramax turbo-diesel V8, B20-compatible, is standard and the gas V8 is not offered, which for 2027 means the new L6P code with the Allison 10-speed automatic. The block heater, exhaust brake, 220-amp alternator, and dual batteries come with it, and the winter grille cover is on the option list because it is only sold with the diesel. The rest is the same argument it was last year: nothing left to add. Vader chrome grille with the gloss-black surround, 20-inch ultra-bright wheels with gloss black inserts, Alpine Umber full-grain leather, 16-way massage seats, Bose 12-speaker audio, the 15-inch head-up display, and the Rear Camera Mirror are all standard, and the dealer-installed Illumination Package lights the front emblem, sills, and puddle lamps for the buyer who wants it noticed at the Mobridge Marina after dark. On capability, the Denali Ultimate takes the Max Trailering Package, and as a Crew Cab long bed it is eligible for the 12,300-pound GVWR code, the highest in the 2027 lineup; the standard bed with the package is coded at 12,150. Those are GVWR codes, not trailer ratings, and the 2027 ratings are still to come. For what a rated Denali Ultimate actually pulls, the 2026 comparison linked above walks through the 2026 numbers trim by trim. New for 2027: the SLT can be ordered with the Technology Package, which adds the 15-inch multicolor head-up display and the Rear Camera Mirror that were AT4-and-up equipment in 2026. Why Did the SLT Just Get More Interesting? Because the Technology Package, the 15-inch multicolor head-up display plus the Rear Camera Mirror, is available on the SLT for the first time. In 2026 that package stopped at the AT4. For 2027 an SLT ordered with the Preferred or Premium Package can add it, which puts the speed and the adaptive cruise gap on the windshield of the truck most of our ranch and lake buyers actually choose. The Rear Camera Mirror matters more with a trailer than without one. With a stock trailer or fifth-wheel behind you the inside mirror shows the trailer nose and nothing else; the camera mirror shows the road behind the trailer instead. Pair it with the Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, Bed View camera, and HD Surround Vision in the Pro Safety Plus package, which the SLT Preferred Package requires, and the SLT becomes a well-equipped towing cab for less than a Denali. The rest of the 2027 SLT is the carryover we already liked: 18-inch aluminum wheels on all-terrain tires, leather, the MultiPro tailgate, ProGrade Trailering with Hitch View and the Trailering App, and the Autotrac transfer case for a Highway 12 morning that turns to glaze halfway to Selby. The Max Trailering Package is available with the Duramax. What Is Standard on Every 2027 Trim Now? Three things a Pro or SLE buyer paid extra for in 2026 are on every 2027 Sierra 2500 HD: adaptive cruise control, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking inside the standard Sierra HD Pro Safety group, and 18-inch-or-larger wheels because the 17-inch wheel and tire have been dropped entirely. Adaptive cruise is the practical one. In 2026 the Pro, SLE, and SLT came with conventional cruise, and the adaptive version was a package item or an AT4-and-up feature. For 2027 it is standard on all seven, which on a long pull to Pierre behind a grain truck means the Sierra holds its following distance without you riding the brake. The rest of the Pro Safety group, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, IntelliBeam, and Automatic Emergency Braking among it, carries over. The 18-inch floor has a towing consequence: the Max Trailering Package has always required 18-inch or larger wheels, and every 2027 truck already meets that, so the package comes down to whether the Duramax is in the truck. Standard trailering gear is unchanged on all seven, the receiver hitch with 7-pin and 4-pin connectors, the integrated trailer brake controller, Hitch Guidance, and trailer sway control. What is not published is a 2027 trailer rating; GM will release those in the 2027 Trailering Guide, and until then the rated truck is the 2026 Sierra 2500 HD on our lot, which GM rates at up to 20,000 pounds conventional and 22,390 pounds gooseneck, properly equipped, for the 2026 model year. Which One Should You Order for Gravel Roads Plus a Fifth-Wheel? Order the AT4 or the Denali with the Duramax and the Max Trailering Package, and spend the AT4X money only if the two-track matters more than the trailer. Nothing in the 2027 equipment changes that advice: the AT4X still cannot take the package, the Denali Ultimate is a Denali with everything already included, and the SLT with the new Technology Package is the value play if you can live without 20-inch wheels and the Denali grille. The AT4 gives you the X31 content, skid plates, twin-tube shocks, and Hill Descent Control, on 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, plus the KO3 tire option if the road to the pasture is more rock than gravel. The Denali trades the off-road suspension for 20-inch chrome-insert wheels, Forge leather, and the Denali Reserve Package with the sunroof and Technology Package. Both take the Max Trailering Package with the Duramax, and both are eligible for the 12,150 and 12,300-pound GVWR codes on a 2027 order. What we cannot do yet is put a 2027 towing number next to either one. The 2026 AT4 vs Denali post has the rated 2026 figures for both trims with and without the package, and those are the numbers to plan a trailer around until the 2027 guide lands. How to Pick Your 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Trim Six steps, in the order we walk through them at the desk. Start with the trailer: if you need the Max Trailering Package, cross off the AT4X and the Double Cab, and plan on the Duramax because the package requires it. Pick the cab: Regular and Double Cab are Pro and SLE only. SLT and up is Crew Cab, and the AT4X is Crew Cab standard bed, period. Decide on the screen and seats: Pro is the 7-inch screen and vinyl or cloth; SLE and up get the 13.4-inch screen; SLT and up get leather and the MultiPro tailgate. Choose gravel or chrome: AT4 for the off-road suspension and skid plates, Denali for the chrome and Forge leather, AT4X only if the lift and 35-inch tires earn their keep. Add the packages: SLT Preferred or Premium plus the Technology Package; AT4 Premium Plus; Denali Reserve. Snow Plow Prep on any 4WD truck that will push snow. Confirm the label at delivery: the trailering information label in the driver door jamb carries the 2027 ratings for the exact truck. Read it before you buy a trailer to match it. Which 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Trim Is Worth It for You? Trim Worth it if Skip it if SLT with Technology Package You want the HUD and camera mirror without the Denali grille You tow and value the trailer camera set 18-inch all-terrain wheels suit your gravel You want massage seats or Bose 12-speaker audio You want 20-inch wheels standard AT4X The two-track to the far pasture is the daily commute You want the lift, DSSV dampers, e-locker, and 35-inch tires from the factory Your trailer is a bumper-pull or a modest gooseneck You need the Max Trailering Package You want a long bed You want to see the new wheel before ordering Denali Ultimate You want the Duramax anyway and nothing left to add You want the Max Trailering Package in the nicest cab in the lineup The truck is the lake truck as much as the ranch truck You wanted the gas V8 (not offered here) Coastal Dune or Volcanic Red is your color (neither is offered on this trim) Key Takeaways All seven trims carry into 2027 with the same cab and drive rules; the AT4X is still Crew Cab standard bed only and the Denali Ultimate is still Duramax only. The AT4X gets a new 18-inch wheel code with no published description yet, plus GVWR codes of 11,150 pounds gas and 11,750 diesel. The Technology Package, 15-inch HUD and Rear Camera Mirror, is available on the SLT for the first time. Adaptive cruise control, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, and 18-inch-or-larger wheels are standard on every 2027 trim, Pro included. 2027 trailer ratings are not published; plan a trailer around the rated 2026 truck and confirm the 2027 label in the driver door jamb at delivery. Frequently Asked Questions Can the 2027 AT4X be ordered with the Max Trailering Package? No. The Max Trailering Package is available on the Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate with the Duramax, and not on the AT4X or any Double Cab. The AT4X does take the gooseneck and fifth-wheel prep package. Does the 2027 Denali Ultimate come with the gas V8? No. The Denali Ultimate is Duramax only for 2027, the same as 2026. The gas V8 with direct injection and variable valve timing is standard on Pro through Denali; the Duramax turbo-diesel V8, B20-compatible, is available there and standard on the Denali Ultimate, each with the Allison 10-speed automatic. What does the Technology Package add to a 2027 SLT? The 15-inch multicolor head-up display and the Rear Camera Mirror. On the SLT it requires the SLT Preferred Package or the SLT Premium Package. The same package is included in the AT4 Premium Plus Package and the Denali Reserve Package, and it is standard on the AT4X and Denali Ultimate. How much can each 2027 Sierra 2500 HD trim tow? GM has not published 2027 trailer ratings yet; they will appear in the 2027 GM Trailering Guide, and the label in the driver door jamb of each truck carries the final figure. For planning, the 2026 Sierra 2500 HD on our lot is rated by GM at up to 20,000 pounds conventional and 22,390 pounds gooseneck, properly equipped, and the 2026 AT4 vs Denali post lists the 2026 figures by trim. My Take on the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Trims The trim I would point most 2027 orders toward is the one that changed the least on paper and the most in practice: the SLT. Adaptive cruise and the 18-inch all-terrain wheel are standard now, and with the Preferred Package plus the Technology Package it has the head-up display, camera mirror, trailer blind-zone alert, and surround cameras that used to require an AT4 or a Denali. For a Crew Cab that pulls a stock trailer in April and a camper to West Whitlock in July, that is a lot of truck without the chrome. The AT4X is a truck I love to drive and rarely recommend for a gooseneck outfit, and 2027 does not change that. The Denali Ultimate is the easy answer for the buyer who wants the Duramax, the Max Trailering Package, and no option sheet to think about. What I will not do is put a 2027 towing number on this page before GM publishes one; the rated truck is the 2026 in our yard, and a trailer you are buying this fall should be planned around that one. Ordering a 2027 Sierra 2500 HD for a Mobridge Winter: Block Heater, Dual Alternators, and Snow Plow Prep

A 2027 GMC Sierra 2500 HD ordered this fall will arrive in the middle of a Mobridge winter, which means the first thing it does in your yard is start at twenty below and push snow off the drive before chores. On a 2026 truck off the lot you can see the equipment before you buy; on a 2027 order you are writing the winter equipment down in September for a truck you will not see until the snow contracts are already running. Short answer: the 2027 winter menu is the one that made the 2026 such a good Dakota truck, with two additions. The Duramax still includes an engine block heater, a 220-amp alternator, dual batteries, and an exhaust brake. The Snow Plow Prep and Camper Package is still available on every trim with 4WD. New for 2027, adaptive cruise control is standard on all seven trims, and every truck rides on 18-inch or larger wheels. This post is the order-sheet version of our 2026 winter and snow plow prep guide, which stays the deep dive on how the equipment works once the truck is in your yard. View Sierra 2500 HD Inventory Get Pre-Qualified On This Page What arrives standard with every 2027 Duramax The Snow Plow Prep and Camper Package for 2027 Dual alternators and the winter grille cover Autotrac, the locking differential, and adaptive cruise in a Highway 12 whiteout The order-bank winter checklist Booking winter service in Mobridge What Winter Equipment Comes Standard With Every 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Duramax? Every 2027 Sierra 2500 HD ordered with the Duramax turbo-diesel V8, B20-compatible, includes an engine block heater, a 220-amp alternator, two 730 cold-cranking-amp batteries, and an exhaust brake, paired with the Allison 10-speed automatic. None of that is an option box; it comes with the engine, as it did on the 2026 truck. The diesel also gets a capped fuel fill, which matters when you are fueling in a crosswind at the co-op in January. The gas V8 with direct injection and variable valve timing, standard on Pro through Denali, comes with a 170-amp alternator and a single 720 cold-cranking-amp battery. A block heater is not included with the gas engine; if you are ordering a gas truck for a calving barn, ask us about adding one. An auxiliary battery is available on the gas truck with the 220-amp alternator or the dual-alternator setup covered below. One honest note: GMC gave both 2027 engines new order codes and has not yet published their output or the 2027 trailer ratings; those will be published in the GM Trailering Guide. For a rated truck today, the 2026 on our lot is the one with numbers on the label, and our buy-a-2026-now-or-order-a-2027 guide lays out that decision for a truck that has to be in the yard before calving. Cold starts: plug it in, and read the manual A diesel started at twenty below wants the block heater plugged in for a few hours beforehand and wants you to wait for the glow plug indicator before you crank. How long each step takes on the 2027 engine is spelled out in that truck's owner's manual, and that is the document to follow rather than what worked on your last one. Winter-blend diesel and a full tank ahead of a cold snap do the rest. What Is in the 2027 Snow Plow Prep and Camper Package, and Who Can Order It? The Snow Plow Prep and Camper Package (order code VYU) is available on all seven 2027 trims, requires 4WD, and adds the 220-amp alternator to a gas truck, a higher front axle weight rating, skid plates, a pass-through grommet in the dash for the plow controller wiring, and provisions for a roof-mounted emergency light. It cannot be combined with the heavy-duty front camper spring (F60), and on the AT4X it comes without the extra skid plates because that truck already has its own. 2027 winter equipment Order code Where it is available Rules to know Engine block heater K05 Included with the Duramax Ask us about adding one to a gas truck 220-amp alternator KW5 Included with the Duramax and with Snow Plow Prep Available on gas trucks Dual alternators, 220 and 170 amp KHF All seven trims Upgrade from the single 220-amp unit Snow Plow Prep and Camper Package VYU All seven trims Requires 4WD; not with F60; AT4X gets it without the extra skid plates Heavy-duty front camper spring F60 All trims except AT4X Not with Snow Plow Prep; pick one Winter grille cover BHP Duramax only Not offered with the gas engine Autotrac two-speed transfer case NQH Standard SLT and up Pro and SLE get the push-button two-speed case The reason a plow truck wants this package is the front axle. A blade and its mount hang well ahead of the front wheels, and the package raises what the front axle is rated to carry. It also gives the alternator enough capacity to run the plow's lift and angle pump, a light bar, and the heated seats at once without the voltage sagging at idle. On a gas truck the 220-amp alternator is the single most useful part of the package. The rest of the 2027 package menu is in the 2027 buyers guide. What the package does not change is payload or trailer rating. The blade's weight still counts against the payload on the trailering information label in the driver door jamb, and because the 2027 payload and trailer figures are not yet published, that label is the only place to check them when your 2027 arrives. For the rated 2026 truck on our lot, GM's figures, properly equipped, are on the label today and in our 2026 buyers guide. The MultiPro tailgate step, standard on SLT and up for 2027, is a small thing until you are climbing into an icy bed for a bale of hay in February. When Do Dual Alternators and the Winter Grille Cover Make Sense? Order the dual alternators (KHF, a 220-amp primary plus a 170-amp auxiliary) if the truck will run a plow, a bale bed or hydraulic feeder, a winch, and an inverter, or if it will idle for long stretches at the calving barn with the heater, the lights, and a phone charger going. Order the winter grille cover (BHP) if you have the Duramax and the truck spends its days on the highway in January, where cold air through the grille keeps the engine and cab from ever fully warming up. The dual-alternator option is available on all seven 2027 trims, on either engine. Most ranch trucks do not need it. The ones that do are the ones that added an aftermarket electrical load after the fact and then wondered why the batteries went flat in a cold week. If you know a plow and a bale bed are going on the truck, order it now rather than fighting a charging problem later. The grille cover is diesel-only for 2027. It blocks part of the grille opening so the engine reaches and holds operating temperature in extreme cold, which is also what keeps the cab heat strong on a long empty run down US 83 to Pierre. It is a cheap box on the order sheet and easy to forget in September. How Do Autotrac, the Locking Differential, and Adaptive Cruise Help in a Highway 12 Whiteout? Three pieces of hardware do most of the work when the road between Mobridge and Aberdeen disappears. The Autotrac two-speed transfer case, standard on SLT and up, has an automatic 4WD mode that engages the front axle when the rear starts to slip, so you are not guessing when the pavement goes from wet to glazed. The G80 automatic locking rear differential, standard on every trim except the AT4X, locks the rear wheels together when one spins, which is what gets a loaded truck moving off a snowed-in approach. StabiliTrak with trailer sway control and hill start assist is standard on all of them. The 2027 change is adaptive cruise control, now standard on all seven trims where it used to take a package on Pro, SLE, and SLT. On a clear winter morning it holds a set gap to the truck ahead on Highway 12, a real help on a long run with a trailer. In an actual whiteout it is not a crutch: heavy snow can cover the sensor and make the system unavailable, and even when it is working it does not see ice. Slow down, turn the cruise off, and treat it as a fair-weather tool. Your truck's owner's manual describes when the system will and will not operate. The AT4X is the trim to think about separately: a driver-selectable rear locker instead of the automatic one, 35-inch mud-terrain tires, and a lifted suspension. It is an excellent pasture truck in a drift; on glare ice a mud-terrain is not the tire I would choose for the highway. Pro and SLE buyers should note that the standard 2027 tire on those trims is an all-season on an 18-inch wheel, with an all-terrain available, and that every 2027 truck already wears the 18-inch or larger wheel the Max Trailering Package requires; the 2027 towing and Max Trailering post covers that side of the order sheet. How to Spec a 2027 Sierra 2500 HD That Lands in January An order placed this fall typically builds and ships over the winter; ask us for the current order-bank window, because it moves and we will not promise a date we cannot see. Here is the checklist we walk through at the desk for a truck that goes straight from the transport to the snow. Pick the engine for the cold, not just the trailer: the Duramax brings the block heater, dual batteries, 220-amp alternator, and exhaust brake with it. On a gas truck, add the block heater and consider Snow Plow Prep for the alternator alone. Order 4WD and check the transfer case: SLT and up get Autotrac with automatic 4WD. Pro and SLE get the push-button two-speed case, which is fine if you remember to use it before the approach, not after. Decide between Snow Plow Prep and the camper spring: you can have VYU or F60, not both. A plow truck takes VYU; a truck carrying a slide-in camper to Lake Oahe in July takes F60. Add the electrical you will actually use: dual alternators if a plow, a bale bed, or a winch is going on the truck; the winter grille cover if it is a Duramax that lives on the highway. Write down the tires: if the truck is a Pro or SLE, ask for the all-terrain tire instead of the standard all-season. It is the cheapest winter upgrade on the sheet. Read the label when it arrives: the trailering information label in the driver door jamb of your 2027 is where the payload and trailer ratings for that truck will be printed. Subtract the plow and the fuel before you load the bed. Where Do You Book Winter Service in Mobridge? Our service department at Beadle Chevrolet GMC, 2200 US Hwy 12 in Mobridge, is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to noon. If you order a 2027 through us, we will do the delivery inspection, install the gooseneck ball or plow mount you have chosen, and set the truck up for the cold before you take it home. For a truck already in your yard, a fall visit for a battery load test, a coolant check, and wiper blades is cheap insurance against a no-start on a February calving check. Use the contact page to book a time, or call or text 605-845-7277. Is Snow Plow Prep Worth Ordering on a 2027 Sierra 2500 HD? Worth it if Skip it if A blade is going on the truck, this winter or any winter you own it You are ordering the gas V8 and want the 220-amp alternator anyway The truck will carry a light bar or run auxiliary equipment off the dash You want the skid plates and the higher front axle rating for a bale bed or a heavy bumper You need the heavy-duty front camper spring (F60) for a slide-in camper instead The truck is a Duramax that will never see a plow; the 220-amp alternator is already included You are ordering 2WD, which the package does not allow You are buying the rated 2026 truck off the lot and it already has the equipment you need Key Takeaways Every 2027 Duramax includes the block heater, 220-amp alternator, dual 730 CCA batteries, and exhaust brake; the gas V8 does not include a block heater, so ask us to add one. Snow Plow Prep and Camper Package (VYU) is on all seven 2027 trims, requires 4WD, cannot pair with the F60 camper spring, and comes without the extra skid plates on the AT4X. Dual alternators (KHF) are available on every trim; the winter grille cover (BHP) is Duramax only. Adaptive cruise control is standard on all seven 2027 trims, but it is a clear-road tool, not a whiteout tool. 2027 payload and trailer ratings are not yet published; read the trailering information label in the door jamb when your truck arrives. Frequently Asked Questions Does the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Duramax come with a block heater? Yes. The engine block heater (K05) is included with the Duramax turbo-diesel V8 on every 2027 trim, along with the 220-amp alternator, dual batteries, and exhaust brake. The gas V8 does not include a block heater; ask us about adding one when you order. Can I order Snow Plow Prep on a gas 2027 Sierra 2500 HD? Yes, on any 4WD model. On a gas truck the package upgrades the alternator from 170 amps to 220 amps, raises the front axle rating, and adds skid plates, the dash grommet, and the roof-light provisions. It is not offered on 2WD trucks or together with the F60 heavy-duty front camper spring. Can a 2027 Sierra 2500 HD AT4X take a snow plow? The Snow Plow Prep and Camper Package is available on the AT4X, without the package's extra skid plates because the AT4X has its own aluminum front and steel transfer-case plates. Whether a specific blade fits the AT4X's lifted suspension and bumper is a question for the plow manufacturer, and we will help you check it before you order. Is the winter grille cover available on the gas 2027 Sierra 2500 HD? No. For 2027 the winter grille cover (BHP) is offered only with the Duramax. A gas truck that needs help holding cab heat on the highway is better served by a block heater for the morning start and a remote start package so it is warm before you get in. My Take on Ordering a 2027 Sierra 2500 HD for Winter The trucks that give people trouble in a Mobridge winter are rarely the ones that were ordered wrong; they are the ones bought off a lot in a different climate with the winter boxes empty. A factory order fixes that, because you get to write the winter down in September. For a ranch truck I would order the Duramax for the included block heater and batteries alone, 4WD without a second thought, Snow Plow Prep if a blade is even a possibility, and the all-terrain tire on a Pro or SLE. Dual alternators and the grille cover are for the truck that works all day in it. What I will not do is tell you what the 2027 will tow or carry, because GM has not published it yet. If the truck has to be in the yard and rated before calving starts in February, the 2026 Sierra 2500 HD on our lot is the rated truck, with its figures on the label and in the 2026 buyers guide. Everything that changed for 2027, the winter equipment included, is in the 2027 GMC Sierra 2500 HD buyers guide. Bring your plow, your bale bed, or your calving-barn routine to Beadle Chevrolet GMC at 2200 US Hwy 12 in Mobridge, or call or text 605-845-7277, and we will build the order sheet around it. 2027 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Colors: All Eight Carry Over, and Which Ones Your Trim Can Actually Wear

The 2027 GMC Sierra 2500 HD color card has no new paint on it, and for once that is good news. Every color from the 2026 truck carries over, nothing was dropped, and the two colors that debuted last year, Coastal Dune and Glacier White Tricoat, have lost their "new" tag. If you are ordering a 2027 this fall for a truck you plan to keep ten years, you can pick a color knowing exactly what it looks like on a real truck in a real Mobridge yard. Short answer: there are eight colors on the SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate ladder, and seven on Pro and SLE, where Cardinal Red takes the place of the two premium colors. The catch is that the chart is not a free-for-all. Coastal Dune above SLE is AT4 and AT4X only, Glacier White Tricoat skips the AT4 and AT4X, Volcanic Red Tintcoat is not offered on a Denali, and Downpour Metallic on the upper trims belongs to the Denali and Denali Ultimate. This post walks the chart trim by trim so your order sheet comes out right the first time. What changed under the hood for 2027 is a separate story, covered in our buy-now-or-order-a-2027 guide. View Sierra 2500 HD Inventory Get Pre-Qualified On This Page The 2027 palette by RPO code Coastal Dune and Glacier White Tricoat, second year Trim rules that trip people up Interior pairings by trim Ranch-yard and lake-life picks How to order a color the lot does not have What Colors Does the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Come In? Nine paint names appear across the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD lineup, but no single trim can order all nine. Pro and SLE share a seven-color chart; SLT through Denali Ultimate share an eight-color chart. Summit White is the no-charge color on both, every other color carries an extra charge, and the window sticker is where we will show you that number. The RPO code is the three-character code a factory order is written in. 2027 color RPO Pro / SLE SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, Denali Ultimate Summit White GAZ Pro, SLE (no charge) All five Onyx Black GBA Pro, SLE All five Sterling Metallic GXD Pro, SLE All five Titanium Rush Metallic G6M SLE only All five Coastal Dune G42 Pro, SLE AT4, AT4X only Glacier White Tricoat G4J not offered SLT, Denali, Denali Ultimate only Volcanic Red Tintcoat GNT not offered SLT, AT4, AT4X (not Denali or Denali Ultimate) Downpour Metallic GXP Pro only, Jet Black interior Denali, Denali Ultimate Cardinal Red G7C Pro, SLE not offered Read the table by trim first, then by color. An SLE buyer has seven choices. A Denali buyer has six, because Coastal Dune and Volcanic Red are not on the Denali chart. An AT4 buyer has a different six, since Glacier White Tricoat and Downpour Metallic are not on the AT4 chart. Our 2027 AT4X and Denali Ultimate post covers what else separates those trims once the paint is chosen. Are Coastal Dune and Glacier White Tricoat Still Available for 2027? Yes, both carry over unchanged. The only difference on the 2027 chart is that the "new" flag next to each is gone, which is GMC's way of saying they are permanent rather than a one-year experiment. The trim rules did not move either: Coastal Dune is a Pro, SLE, AT4, and AT4X color, and Glacier White Tricoat is an SLT, Denali, and Denali Ultimate color. That matters more than it sounds. Last year a Coastal Dune buyer was ordering a color nobody around Mobridge had seen in person. This year 2026 trucks in that color have been through a full summer of gravel, sun, and lake trips, so we can tell you how it wears: a light, warm tan that reads like dried grass in August light, hides dust far better than a dark color, and looks right on an AT4 with black wheels. Glacier White Tricoat is a pearl white with a depth Summit White does not have; in the sun at the Mobridge Marina a Denali Ultimate in it is a different truck. If you were waiting to see whether GMC would keep either color, you can stop waiting. The color section of our 2026 buyers guide is where these two were introduced, and every combination listed there is legal on the 2027 order sheet too. Which Trim Rules Trip People Up on a 2027 Sierra HD Order? Four of them, and they account for most of the orders we have had to rewrite at the desk. Can you get Volcanic Red on a Denali? No. Can you get Glacier White Tricoat on an AT4? No. Can you get Coastal Dune on an SLT or a Denali? No, only on Pro, SLE, AT4, and AT4X. Can you get Downpour Metallic on an SLT? Our rule is no; treat it as a Denali, Denali Ultimate, and Pro color. The four rules, in one place Coastal Dune above SLE is AT4 and AT4X only. Glacier White Tricoat is SLT, Denali, and Denali Ultimate only. Volcanic Red Tintcoat is SLT, AT4, and AT4X only, never a Denali or Denali Ultimate. Downpour Metallic on the upper ladder is a Denali and Denali Ultimate color, and on the work trims it is a Pro-only color that requires the Jet Black interior. Titanium Rush Metallic is offered on every trim except Pro, and Cardinal Red is offered only on Pro and SLE. Where people get caught is when the color drives the trim instead of the other way around. If you must have Volcanic Red and you were leaning Denali, the honest answer is an SLT or an AT4 in that color, and the SLT case got stronger for 2027 now that it can be ordered with the head-up display and Rear Camera Mirror. If you must have Glacier White Tricoat and you were leaning AT4, the answer is Summit White on the AT4 or an SLT in the tricoat. None of this is a judgment about your taste; it is what the factory will build, and we will walk you through which trade costs you less of what you actually wanted. The full 2027 trim ladder is in the 2027 buyers guide. Downpour Metallic on a Denali Ultimate at the Mobridge Marina. On the upper trims this color is a Denali and Denali Ultimate choice. Which Interior Goes With Each 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Color? The interior menu did not change for 2027 either, and it is set by trim, not by paint. On the Pro and SLE every exterior color pairs with Jet Black or Dark Walnut and Slate, with one exception: Downpour Metallic on a Pro takes the Jet Black interior only. On the upper trims the pairing is mostly decided the moment you pick the trim. 2027 trim Interior choices Color note Pro Jet Black vinyl or cloth Downpour Metallic requires Jet Black SLE Jet Black cloth or Dark Walnut and Slate cloth Any of the seven SLE colors with either interior SLT Jet Black or Dark Walnut and Slate perforated leather Volcanic Red and Glacier White both offered AT4 Jet Black with Kalahari accents Coastal Dune and Volcanic Red offered; no Glacier White AT4X Obsidian Rush full-grain leather Same color chart as the AT4 Denali Jet Black or Atmosphere and Brownstone Forge leather Downpour and Glacier White offered; no Volcanic Red, no Coastal Dune Denali Ultimate Alpine Umber full-grain leather Same color chart as the Denali A note from the service side of our building, not a factory claim: Dark Walnut and Slate cloth on an SLE hides a calving-season floor better than Jet Black does, and Jet Black vinyl on a Pro is the easiest interior in the lineup to hose out. Which 2027 Colors Hide Gravel Dust, and Which Show Well at the Ramp? This section is my opinion, not GMC's, and your neighbor's may differ. For a truck that lives on county gravel between Mobridge and the section lines, Sterling Metallic, Coastal Dune, and Titanium Rush Metallic hide dust and light mud better than anything else on the chart, along with the fine scratches tall grass leaves down the doors. Summit White is close behind and is the easiest color to touch up or match at a body shop, which is why so many working trucks around here wear it. For a truck that spends its weekends backing a boat in at Indian Creek or the Mobridge Marina, Onyx Black, Volcanic Red Tintcoat, and Glacier White Tricoat are the three that draw a comment from the next trailer in line. Onyx Black shows every speck of dust and every wash swirl, and I tell people that plainly before they order it. The tintcoat and tricoat are multi-stage paints with real depth, and both cost more to repair after a rock chip than a solid color. If the truck runs gravel all week and gets washed Friday, that is a fair trade; if it never sees a wash bay, I would steer you to the first group. Downpour Metallic is the sleeper: dark enough to look sharp at the marina, grey enough to hide a week of road dust, and the color the fewest people around here have. Cardinal Red on a Pro or SLE is the working-truck red, a solid color that touches up easily and shows from the far end of a hayfield in December. How to Order a 2027 Sierra 2500 HD in a Color the Lot Does Not Have Most of the trucks we stock are Summit White, Onyx Black, and Sterling Metallic, because that is what most people buy. If you want one of the others, or a specific color on a specific trim, a factory order is the way, and it is a simpler conversation than people expect. Pick the trim first: the trim decides which colors are legal, not the other way around. Settle on Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, or Denali Ultimate, then choose from that trim's chart above. Check the color against the rules: confirm your color is on that trim's list, and confirm the interior it requires. Downpour on a Pro means Jet Black; Volcanic Red means no Denali. Spec the rest of the truck: cab, bed, engine, Max Trailering Package, snow plow prep, wheels. A color order is still a whole-truck order, and the towing side is covered in our 2027 towing post and the 2026 guide for the rated truck. Ask us for the order-bank window: an order placed this fall typically builds and ships over the winter, but the window moves, and we will tell you what GM is showing the day you sign rather than guess. Look at the color in person before you commit: if we have a 2026 on the lot in your color, walk out and see it in daylight. Paint chips lie; a truck in the sun on US Hwy 12 does not. Is Ordering a Specific 2027 Color Worth the Wait? Worth it if Skip it (take a lot truck) if You plan to keep the truck eight to ten years and the color matters to you every morning You want Coastal Dune, Volcanic Red, Glacier White Tricoat, or Downpour, which we rarely stock You are ordering a trim we do not keep on the lot anyway, such as an AT4X or Denali Ultimate Your truck does not need to be in the yard before calving or the lake season You need a truck this month, not this winter Summit White, Onyx Black, or Sterling Metallic suits you fine You want the rated 2026 truck with published towing and payload figures on the label The color is a coin flip and the equipment is what you care about Key Takeaways Every 2026 Sierra 2500 HD color carries over to 2027; nothing was added and nothing was dropped. Pro and SLE choose from seven colors; SLT through Denali Ultimate choose from eight, and no trim can order all nine names. Coastal Dune above SLE is AT4 and AT4X only; Glacier White Tricoat is SLT, Denali, and Denali Ultimate only; Volcanic Red is never a Denali color. Downpour Metallic on the upper trims is a Denali and Denali Ultimate color, and on a Pro it requires the Jet Black interior. Pick the trim first, then the color; if the lot does not have it, a fall order typically builds and ships over the winter. Frequently Asked Questions Can you get Volcanic Red Tintcoat on a 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Denali? No. For 2027, Volcanic Red Tintcoat is offered on the SLT, AT4, and AT4X only. The Denali and Denali Ultimate color chart runs Summit White, Onyx Black, Sterling Metallic, Titanium Rush Metallic, Glacier White Tricoat, and Downpour Metallic. If red is the deciding factor, an SLT in Volcanic Red is the closest truck to a Denali you can order in that color. Are there any new colors on the 2027 GMC Sierra 2500 HD? No new colors and no dropped colors. The 2027 chart is the 2026 chart with the "new" label removed from Coastal Dune and Glacier White Tricoat, which both debuted on the 2026 truck. The trim rules for each color are unchanged as well. Which 2027 Sierra 2500 HD color has no extra charge? Summit White is the no-charge color on every trim. Each of the other colors carries an extra charge that varies by color, with the tricoat and tintcoat paints at the top. Ask us for the current amount or read it on the window sticker of a truck on the lot; we do not print paint prices here because they change. Can I get Coastal Dune on a 2027 Sierra 2500 HD SLT? No. Coastal Dune is a Pro, SLE, AT4, and AT4X color for 2027. An SLT buyer who wants a light, warm color has Summit White, Sterling Metallic, Titanium Rush Metallic, or Glacier White Tricoat to choose from. If Coastal Dune is the priority and you want leather, the AT4 is the trim to look at. My Take on 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Colors A truck you order in September and drive until the kids are grown deserves ten minutes of honest thought about paint, and the 2027 chart makes that easy because there are no surprises on it. Pick the trim for the work, then the color from that trim's list, and if the color you want is not on the list, let the trim move rather than settle for a color you will regret. Coastal Dune and Glacier White Tricoat have both proven themselves on 2026 trucks around Mobridge, and I would order either without hesitation on the trims that allow them. One more thing, because paint is the easy part. The 2027 Sierra 2500 HD's output and trailer ratings will be published in the GM Trailering Guide, and until then the rated truck is the 2026 in our yard, which GM rates at up to 20,000 pounds conventional, properly equipped, with the figures on the trailering information label in the driver door jamb. Our 2026 buyers guide has every one of those numbers. The 2027 color and trim rules, along with everything else that changed, are in the 2027 GMC Sierra 2500 HD buyers guide. If you want to see a color in daylight before you order, come out to Beadle Chevrolet GMC at 2200 US Hwy 12 in Mobridge, or call or text 605-845-7277 and we will tell you which colors are sitting on the lot this week. Buy a 2026 Sierra 2500 HD Now or Order a 2027? A Mobridge Rancher's Decision Guide

The 2027 GMC Sierra 2500 HD order bank is open, the order guide has been out since September 11, and the question at our desk has changed from "which trim" to "which year." A 2027 gets you 18-inch wheels on every truck, a higher GVWR ceiling, standard adaptive cruise, and the head-up display on an SLT. A 2026 gets you a truck that is sitting on our lot with a published tow rating in the door jamb. Both are the same seven trims and the same Max Trailering rules, so this is a decision about numbers and timing, not about which truck is better. Short answer: if the truck has to pull a stock trailer to the sale barn this fall, plow this winter, or be in the yard before calving, and you want a rating you can read before you sign, buy the 2026. If you can take delivery over the winter, want the 2027 equipment, and are comfortable spec-ing on equipment while GM finishes publishing the ratings, order the 2027. The rest of this post is how I would walk a cow-calf outfit through that choice. View Sierra 2500 HD Inventory Get Pre-Qualified On This Page What you get today: rated 2026 trucks on the lot What the 2027 adds What the 2027 has not published yet Timing against calving season, harvest, and the lake Trade-in and pre-qualification either way How to place a 2027 order at Beadle Chevrolet GMC What Do You Get Today With a 2026 Sierra 2500 HD on the Lot? A truck you can see, drive, weigh, and read. The 2026 Sierra 2500 HD is rated by GM at up to 20,000 pounds conventional and 22,390 pounds gooseneck, properly equipped, and every configuration on our lot has its own payload and trailer ratings printed on the trailering information label in the driver door jamb. You can match the truck to your trailer at the elevator scale before you sign anything, which is a luxury an ordered truck cannot give you until it arrives. The 2026 also has a published engine story: the 2026 gas V8 is rated at 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft, and the 2026 Duramax at 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft, with the full conventional and gooseneck tables laid out in the 2026 towing section of the buyers guide. If your outfit runs a gooseneck stock trailer, the 2026 gooseneck towing post works the pin-weight math on the Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax that most ranchers here order; that math is exactly what you cannot do on a 2027 yet. The trade-off is that you choose from what is in the yard. We stock the configurations that sell around Mobridge, mostly Crew Cab 4WD SLE and SLT trucks with the Duramax, some with the Max Trailering Package and some without, but if you want a specific color on a specific trim with a specific package, the lot may or may not have it. Ask us what is in the yard and what is in transit before you decide to order. What Does the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Add? Four things worth ordering for, and one thing worth knowing. The 17-inch wheel is gone, so every 2027 rides on 18-inch or larger wheels and already meets the Max Trailering Package wheel requirement. The GVWR ceiling rises to 12,300 pounds on a Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax with the package, up from 11,900 pounds in 2026. Adaptive cruise control is standard on all seven trims. And the Technology Package, the Rear Camera Mirror plus the 15-inch head-up display, is available on the SLT for the first time. Decision point 2026 on the lot 2027 on order Tow and payload ratings Published; 2026 rated up to 20,000 lb conventional and 22,390 lb gooseneck, properly equipped Not yet published; coming in the GM Trailering Guide Engines 2026 gas V8 and Duramax with published output New L8S gas and L6P Duramax codes, Allison 10-speed on both, output not yet published Base wheel 17-inch on Pro and SLE 18-inch on every trim Top GVWR 11,900 lb 12,300 lb Adaptive cruise Package on Pro, SLE, SLT; standard AT4 and up Standard on all seven trims Head-up display on SLT Not offered Technology Package with the SLT Preferred or Premium Package Colors Eight; what is in the yard The same eight; you pick When you drive it Today Typically over the winter; ask us for the current order-bank window The thing worth knowing is that the engine codes changed, from L8T and L5P to L8S and L6P, and GM has not printed what is behind the new codes. The what's-new post goes through every verified 2027 change line by line, and the 2027 buyers guide keeps the trim-by-trim detail current. What Has the 2027 Not Published Yet? Horsepower, torque, displacement, conventional and gooseneck tow ratings, payload, curb weight, and GCWR. The first edition of the 2027 order guide has no specification or trailering pages at all. The only capability number it prints is GVWR, and GVWR is the truck's own loaded limit, not the trailer rating and not the combined rating. We will not assume the 2026 figures carry over, because new engine codes and a new GVWR ceiling are two things that normally move them. For most buyers this matters less than it sounds. A rancher who orders a Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax with the Max Trailering Package is ordering the same frame, springs, axle, and gooseneck prep as the 2026 truck, and the label that arrives with it will carry the rating. Where it matters a great deal is the outfit that is already close to the line: a tandem-dual stock trailer, a heavy hay flatbed, a fifth-wheel that fills the 2026 rating. If you are within a few hundred pounds of a limit today, you want a number you can read, and that is the 2026 on the lot. The 2027 towing section of the buyers guide will carry the ratings the day GM publishes them. How we handle an unpublished number at the desk We spec the 2027 on equipment: engine, cab, bed, drive, and whether the Max Trailering Package is on it. We write your loaded trailer weight and pin weight on the order sheet from your scale ticket. When the truck lands, we read the trailering information label in the driver door jamb together before you take the keys. If the label does not cover your trailer, we talk about the 3500 HD before you drive off, not after. A 2027 SLE on its standard 18-inch wheels. The 2027 order bank is open now; the rated 2026 trucks are in the yard behind it. How Does the Timing Line Up With Calving, Harvest, and the Lake? An order placed this fall typically builds and ships over the winter, and that is the whole timing question. We do not promise a delivery date, because GM does not promise us one, and anyone who tells you a week is guessing. Ask us for the current order-bank window when you sit down; it changes month to month. Lay that against the year around Mobridge. If the truck has to haul calves to the sale barn in October and November, pull the snow blade on a contract from November through March, or be in the yard when calving starts in February, the 2026 on the lot is the safe answer, because "over the winter" can mean December or it can mean March. If the truck's first real job is the hay flatbed in April, a custom harvest run that leaves in May, or a fifth-wheel to Indian Creek in June, a fall order has room to arrive and get a few hundred break-in miles on Highway 12 first. There is a middle path we use often: buy the 2026 now for the fall and winter work, and if the 2027 numbers land higher than you expected, trade up later. We will tell you what that trade typically looks like before you commit to anything. The 2027 towing and Max Trailering post covers what the package does on the ordered truck. What Works the Same Either Way: Trade-In and Pre-Qualification Both. Your trade gets appraised the same way whether it goes against a 2026 today or a 2027 this winter, and pre-qualification takes a few minutes online and does not tie you to a truck or a year. The order is fine to place with the financing conversation already started, and most buyers prefer it that way so the day the truck lands is a signature, not a negotiation. On the trade, the one thing that changes with time is miles and season. A truck appraised in September with a fall of hauling ahead of it will appraise differently in February. If you are ordering a 2027, we can appraise now for a rough idea and again at delivery for the real number, and we will be straight about which direction it usually moves. If you are buying the 2026 today, the appraisal is the appraisal. On pre-qualification, use the pre-qualification form and we will follow up; it tells you where you stand before you fall in love with a Denali Ultimate. Pricing on both years is on the window sticker and current incentives change monthly, so ask us for current pricing rather than reading a number off a website that may be a month old. How to Place a 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Order at Beadle Chevrolet GMC If you have read this far and the 2027 is the truck, here is the order path, start to finish. Bring the job: your loaded trailer weight and pin weight from a scale ticket, and what the truck does the other 300 days a year. That decides the cab, the engine, and whether the Max Trailering Package goes on. Pick the trim and cab: Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, or Denali Ultimate; SLT and up are Crew Cab 4WD only, and the Denali Ultimate is Duramax only. Settle the engine and the package: the Max Trailering Package needs the Duramax and is not offered on the Double Cab or the AT4X; it cannot be added after the truck is built. Choose the color and the packages: the same eight colors as 2026 with the same trim rules; Snow Plow Prep and dual alternators for a winter truck; the SLT Preferred Package if you want the head-up display. Confirm the order-bank window: we check the current build timing with GM the day you order and tell you what we know, not what you hope. Start the trade and pre-qualification: appraisal now, pre-qualification online, both finalized at delivery. Read the label at delivery: the trailering information label in the driver door jamb carries the ratings for your truck; we compare it to your scale ticket before you leave. Is Ordering a 2027 Worth It, or Is the 2026 on the Lot Your Truck? Worth it if (order the 2027) Skip it (buy the 2026 today) if The truck's first heavy job is spring or summer, not this fall You want a specific color, trim, and package the lot does not have Standard adaptive cruise or the SLT head-up display matters to you You want the highest GVWR ceiling on a 2500 HD Your trailer sits comfortably inside the 2026 rating and the 2027 label is a formality Sale barn, snow contract, or calving needs the truck before spring You are close to a tow or payload limit and need a published number You want to weigh the exact truck with your trailer before you sign Your current truck will not make it through another winter You would rather trade up later than wait now Key Takeaways The 2026 Sierra 2500 HD on our lot is fully rated, up to 20,000 pounds conventional and 22,390 pounds gooseneck properly equipped, and you can weigh the exact truck against your trailer today. The 2027 adds 18-inch wheels on every trim, a 12,300-pound GVWR ceiling, standard adaptive cruise, and the head-up display on the SLT. The 2027 has not published output, towing, payload, or GCWR; the trailering information label in the door jamb will carry the rating when the truck arrives. A fall order typically builds and ships over the winter; fall hauling, snow contracts, and February calving favor the 2026, spring and lake-season jobs leave room for a 2027. Trade appraisal and pre-qualification work the same either way, and a 2026 bought now can be traded up later if the 2027 numbers surprise you. Frequently Asked Questions Should I buy a 2026 Sierra 2500 HD now or wait for the 2027? Buy the 2026 if you need the truck before spring or need a published tow and payload rating to match a trailer that is near the limit. Order the 2027 if you can take delivery over the winter and want the 18-inch wheels, higher GVWR ceiling, standard adaptive cruise, or the SLT head-up display. Both are the same seven trims with the same Max Trailering Package rules. Will the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD tow more than the 2026? Nobody can say yet. GM has not published 2027 tow ratings; the only new 2027 capability number is a GVWR ceiling of 12,300 pounds. The 2026 truck is rated up to 20,000 pounds conventional and 22,390 pounds gooseneck, properly equipped, and those 2026 figures are the ones to plan around until the 2027 GM Trailering Guide is out. How long does a 2027 Sierra 2500 HD order take? An order placed this fall typically builds and ships over the winter, but GM does not give us a guaranteed date and we will not invent one. Ask us for the current order-bank window when you order; we check it with GM that day and update you as the truck moves through scheduling, build, and transit. Can I get pre-qualified before an ordered truck arrives? Yes. Pre-qualification is a short online form that does not tie you to a truck or a model year, and most order customers complete it at the time they order so delivery day is a signature. Your trade can be appraised now for a rough figure and again at delivery for the final number. My Take on Buying a 2026 Now or Ordering a 2027 I sell both, so I have no reason to steer you. What I have noticed is that the people who regret an order are the ones who needed the truck in November and told themselves March would be fine, and the people who regret a lot truck are the ones who wanted Glacier White with the head-up display and settled for what was in the yard. Decide by the calendar first and the equipment second, and the numbers, when GM publishes them, will land on a truck that already fits your operation. For a cow-calf outfit with a fall of hauling ahead, I lean toward the rated 2026 on the lot. For the buyer whose truck starts work in the spring, or who wants the SLT with the camera mirror, the 2027 order is the better truck to wait for, and the 18-inch floor means the Max Trailering Package fits it without a second thought. If the order lands in January, spec it for winter; if you are coming out of a Ford or a Ram, the equipment comparison is the honest place to start. Everything verified about the new truck is in the 2027 GMC Sierra 2500 HD buyers guide, and the rated 2026 truck is on our lot. Bring your scale ticket to Beadle Chevrolet GMC at 2200 US Hwy 12 in Mobridge, or call or text 605-845-7277, and we will put both years on the same sheet of paper. Flatbeds, Bale Beds, and Service Bodies: The 2027 Sierra 3500 HD Chassis Cab for Mobridge Outfits

The question I get every fall from hay crews, hotshot haulers, and contractors is some version of this: can I buy the one-ton without the pickup box, so my body builder can set a flatbed, a bale bed, or a service body on it. For 2027 the answer is a clear yes, and GM publishes the chassis cab as its own lineup rather than as an option on the pickup. It is Pro or SLE, Regular Cab or Crew Cab, 2WD or 4WD, with a 14,000-pound GVWR on every model, a wide-track rear axle, and an open C-channel rear frame section made for mounting a body. This post covers what is verified for 2027 and stops where the published information stops. Cab-to-axle lengths, upfit payload, and trailer ratings for a chassis cab are not something GM prints in the ordering material; those come from your body builder and from GM's upfitter resources, and I will point you there rather than guess. If you want the fully rated pickup instead, the 2026 Sierra 3500 HD packages section covers the trucks in our yard, and the what-is-new-for-2027 post walks the rest of the model year. View Sierra 3500 HD Inventory Get Pre-Qualified On This Page What a chassis cab is, and what you get What you can order for 2027, trim by trim Engines, power take-off, fuel, and wheels What your body builder needs, and what GM does not publish Chassis cab or a pickup with the box removed How to order a 2027 chassis cab with your body builder What Is a Chassis Cab, and What Do You Actually Get? You get a complete truck from the back of the cab forward, and bare frame rails behind it. No pickup box, no rear bumper, no tailgate. The rear frame section is an open C-channel rather than the boxed rear of a pickup, which is what a body builder wants: it takes brackets, U-bolts, and outriggers the way a flatbed, bale bed, dump body, or service body is designed to mount. The front of the frame is the same fully boxed, hydroformed section the pickup uses. The other structural piece that matters is the rear axle. Every 2027 chassis cab comes with a wide-track rear axle as standard, which sets the dual rear wheels further apart than a pickup dually and gives a wide body a more stable footprint. That is standard equipment, not an option you have to remember to add. And there is one rating GM does publish: 14,000 pounds of GVWR on every 2027 chassis cab model, and no other GVWR is listed. That is the same ceiling as a dual-rear-wheel Sierra 3500 HD pickup, and it is the number your body builder works from when they size a body and figure out what is left over for the load. What GVWR does and does not mean is worth reading on its own, and the 2027 GVWR post takes it apart in detail. What GM does not publish for the chassis cab Cab-to-axle lengths, wheelbases, frame lengths, payload, towing ratings, and GCWR are not in the published 2027 chassis cab information. Those figures come from your body builder and from GM's upfitter resources, which is where they have always belonged, because the finished truck is only partly GM's. Anyone quoting you a chassis-cab payload before the body is chosen is making it up. What Can You Order for 2027, Trim by Trim? Two trims, two cabs, and both drivetrains. The Pro is the work-truck trim and is available on every chassis cab model; the SLE is offered on 4WD models. You can have a Regular Cab or a Crew Cab, and either one in 2WD or 4WD. There is no SLT, AT4, Denali, or Denali Ultimate chassis cab, which surprises nobody who has priced a service body. Item 2027 Sierra 3500 HD chassis cab Trims Pro on all models; SLE on 4WD models Cabs and drive Regular Cab or Crew Cab, 2WD or 4WD GVWR 14,000 lb on every model; no other GVWR listed Rear axle Wide-track, standard; 3.73 with gas, 3.42 with the Duramax Frame Fully boxed hydroformed front section, open C-channel rear section for body mounting Engines Gas V8 with direct injection and variable valve timing, standard; Duramax turbo-diesel V8, B20-compatible, available Transmissions Allison 10-speed automatic; Allison 10-speed with power take-off on 4WD diesels Fuel 40-gallon rear tank standard; 63.5 gallons front and rear with the Duramax Wheels and tires 18-inch silver painted steel on the Pro, 18-inch polished forged on the SLE, LT235/80R18 all-terrain, matching spare Cab-to-axle, payload, towing Not published; from the body builder and GM's upfitter resources One detail to hand straight to your upfitter: GM lists two Regular Cab model numbers for each drivetrain, and the published material does not spell out how they differ. Your body builder will know which one their body is cataloged against, so ask them before the order goes in rather than after. A specialty option, the Ambulance, Fire, and Rescue Package, is tied to one of those Regular Cab models and is a fleet or government order, which is the right lane for a rural department shopping a brush or rescue body. Cab and safety equipment follows the pickup. Adaptive cruise control is standard for 2027, as is the Sierra HD Pro Safety group with forward collision alert, lane departure warning, following distance indicator, front pedestrian and bicyclist braking, and low speed forward automatic braking. The Pro runs a 7-inch screen and the SLE a 13.4-inch screen with Google built-in and a 12.3-inch driver display. The integrated trailer brake controller is standard, and both transfer cases carry over: push-button two-speed on the Pro, Autotrac available for fleet orders. Colors are the same seven offered on a Pro or SLE pickup. Which Engine, and Do You Need Power Take-Off? The gas V8 with direct injection and variable valve timing is standard, and the Duramax turbo-diesel V8, B20-compatible, is available. Both pair with an Allison 10-speed automatic. A third transmission, the Allison 10-speed with integrated power take-off, is available with the Duramax on 4WD models, and that is the one that matters if your body has hydraulics. Power take-off drives a pump off the transmission, so a dump body, a hydraulic bale bed, a crane, or a hoist runs off the truck rather than off a separate engine bolted to the frame. If your body builder's quote includes a pump and a reservoir, ask them whether they are specifying power take-off or a belt or electric system, because that answer changes your engine and drivetrain choice before anything else on the order. Fuel is the other spec that separates a working chassis cab from a pickup. A 40-gallon tank behind the rear axle is standard, and with the Duramax you can order front and rear tanks totaling 63.5 gallons. For an outfit running a service body between Mobridge, Selby, and Pierre in a week, or a hay crew that does not want to stop in the middle of a windrow, that second tank earns its keep. Electrical capacity backs it up: dual alternators are available, and so is a universal vehicle module, an upfitter switch kit with three 30-amp and two 20-amp circuits, and a high idle switch for running equipment while parked. A winter note on Snow Plow Prep The Snow Plow Prep Package is available on the chassis cab, requires 4WD, and cannot be combined with the heavy-duty front spring package. If you hold a November-to-March snow contract and also want a hydraulic body, get those two lines in front of your body builder and your salesperson at the same time so they do not fight each other on the order. A hotshot deck, a bale bed, or a service body starts with the same decision: where the body mounts, what the body weighs, and what is left for the load. What Does Your Body Builder Need From You? Three things, in this order: the cab and drivetrain you want, the body you want on it, and the cab-to-axle length that body requires. The third one is the piece that comes from them and from GM's upfitter resources, not from a sales brochure, and it is the reason the order has to be a three-way conversation instead of a two-way one. The same goes for what the finished truck can carry and pull. Once a flatbed, a bale bed, or a service body with compartments full of tools is bolted on, the weight of that body comes out of what is available under the 14,000-pound ceiling. Your body builder calculates the finished weight and the load capacity of the completed vehicle, and the final labels on that truck reflect the truck as it is delivered to you. Read the trailering information label in the driver door jamb and the loading placard when it arrives, and scale the finished truck loaded the way you actually run it. For scale, and clearly labeled as a different truck: the 2026 Sierra 3500 HD pickup is rated by GM at up to 20,000 pounds conventional, properly equipped, and a 2026 4WD Crew Cab long bed dually with the Duramax is rated at 31,000 pounds on a gooseneck. Those are 2026 pickup ratings on pickup configurations, they do not transfer to a chassis cab, and GM has not published 2027 ratings for either truck line yet. If you want that arithmetic worked all the way through on a real load, the hotshot and harvest post does it step by step. Chassis Cab, or a Pickup With the Box Taken Off? Both roads exist, and I have sold trucks down each of them. The pickup line offers a bed delete on a Pro or SLE long bed, so you can order a pickup without the box and have a flatbed set on it. The chassis cab is purpose-built for the job: open C-channel rear frame, wide-track rear axle, the bigger fuel tanks, and a frame your body builder already has in their catalog. Where the pickup route makes sense is when you want a truck that can go back to being a pickup, or when you want a trim the chassis cab does not offer. Where it costs you is in fit and in time: a body cataloged for a chassis cab frame is a bolt-up, and the same body on a boxed pickup frame is a fabrication job with brackets somebody has to make. Be honest about the day-to-day, too. Either way you end up with a wide, long, dual-rear-wheel truck. It will not fit every shop door or every automatic car wash, it rides harder empty than a single-rear-wheel truck, and a Crew Cab with a long body is a lot of vehicle in a downtown parking spot. That is the cost of a truck that hauls at capacity every week, and for the outfits buying these, it is a cost worth paying. The cab and configuration section of the 2027 buyers guide covers the choices side by side. How to Order a 2027 Chassis Cab With Your Body Builder Work it in this order and the truck and the body arrive matched instead of nearly matched. Pick the body first: flatbed, bale bed, dump, or service body, with its real weight and its mounting requirements. Everything downstream is set by that choice. Get the cab-to-axle length from your body builder: they will tell you which chassis cab model their body is cataloged against, including which of the two Regular Cab model numbers to use. Decide on hydraulics before the engine: if the body needs power take-off, you are ordering the Duramax on a 4WD model with the power take-off transmission, and that decision cannot be added later. Spec the electrical and fuel to the work: dual alternators, the upfitter switch kit, the universal vehicle module, high idle, and the 63.5-gallon tank option with the diesel for long days between towns. Add the seasonal equipment now: Snow Plow Prep needs 4WD and does not combine with the heavy-duty front spring package, so settle that conflict while the order is still open. Scale and label the finished truck: when the body is mounted, weigh it, read the loading placard and the trailering information label in the driver door jamb, and keep a copy of the completed-vehicle paperwork from the upfitter in the glove box. Is the Chassis Cab the Right Truck for Your Outfit? Worth it if Skip it (buy the pickup) if A flatbed, bale bed, dump body, or service body is going on the truck and staying on Your body needs power take-off hydraulics You want the wide-track rear axle and the bigger fuel tanks Your body builder already catalogs a bolt-up body for this frame You want a pickup box, a tailgate, and a truck that can go back to hauling calves and kids You want a trim above the SLE, or leather and the bigger creature comforts You need a rated, published trailer figure on paper before you sign You need a truck in the yard this fall rather than a build and an upfit Key Takeaways The 2027 Sierra 3500 HD chassis cab is its own lineup: Pro or SLE, Regular or Crew Cab, 2WD or 4WD, with SLE on 4WD models. Every model carries a 14,000-pound GVWR, a wide-track rear axle, and an open C-channel rear frame section built for mounting a body. Both engines are offered with an Allison 10-speed, and power take-off is available with the Duramax on 4WD models for hydraulic bodies. Fuel runs 40 gallons standard or 63.5 gallons in front and rear tanks with the Duramax; 18-inch wheels and LT235/80R18 tires are standard. Cab-to-axle, payload, and towing figures for a chassis cab come from the body builder and GM's upfitter resources, and the finished truck's labels are the final word. Frequently Asked Questions Can you order a 2027 GMC Sierra 3500 HD as a chassis cab for a flatbed or bale bed? Yes. GM publishes the 2027 chassis cab as a separate lineup in Pro and SLE trim, Regular Cab or Crew Cab, 2WD or 4WD, with the SLE offered on 4WD models. It comes with an open C-channel rear frame section and a wide-track rear axle so a body builder can mount a flatbed, bale bed, dump body, or service body. What is the cab-to-axle length of a 2027 Sierra 3500 HD chassis cab? GM does not print cab-to-axle lengths, wheelbases, or frame lengths in the published 2027 chassis cab information, so we will not quote one. Your body builder works from GM's upfitter resources and will tell you exactly which model number their body is cataloged against. Bring us that answer and we will order to it. Does the chassis cab offer power take-off for a hydraulic bed? Yes, with the Duramax turbo-diesel V8 on a 4WD model, through an Allison 10-speed automatic with integrated power take-off. Dual alternators, a universal vehicle module, an upfitter switch kit, and a high idle switch are also available for equipment that runs while the truck is parked. How much can a 2027 chassis cab carry once the body is on it? The GVWR is 14,000 pounds on every model, and the weight of the body comes out of that ceiling before your load does. The exact capacity of a completed truck is calculated by the upfitter, and the loading placard and the trailering information label in the driver door jamb of the delivered truck are the figures to work from. Scale the finished truck loaded the way you run it. My Take on the 2027 Chassis Cab For the outfits around here that feed with a bale bed, run a service body, or haul a hotshot deck, this is the honest truck for the job, and it is nice to finally have the 2027 information in hand to talk about it. The wide-track axle, the open frame rails, the option of 63.5 gallons of fuel, and power take-off on a 4WD diesel are the things that make a working body work, and none of them are afterthoughts on this truck. The part I will keep repeating is that a chassis cab is a three-way order. You, us, and the body builder all have to be in the same conversation, because the numbers that decide the truck, cab-to-axle length and finished capacity, live with them and not with a brochure. Get them on the phone before the order goes in and the truck shows up right the first time. The full 2027 detail is in the 2027 GMC Sierra 3500 HD buyers guide, and the rated pickups are in the 2026 buyers guide and on our lot as this is written. What's New on the 2027 GMC Sierra 2500 HD: New Engine Codes, Allison 10-Speeds, and an 18-Inch Floor

GM released the first edition of the 2027 GMC Sierra 2500 HD order guide on September 11, and I read all of it so you would not have to. The short version: the two engines wear new codes, both transmissions now carry the Allison name, the 17-inch wheel is gone, the GVWR ceiling moves up to 12,300 pounds, and adaptive cruise control is standard on every trim from the Pro to the Denali Ultimate. The seven trims, the cab rules, the eight colors, and the Max Trailering Package all carry over as they were. The longer version includes the part most dealer websites skip: GM has not published horsepower, torque, towing, or payload for the 2027 truck, so you will not find a 2027 rating on this page. If you need the fully rated truck today, the 2026 Sierra 2500 HD buyers guide covers the truck on our lot with every number in the door jamb, and the buy-now-or-order-a-2027 post weighs the two against each other. View Sierra 2500 HD Inventory Get Pre-Qualified On This Page What the 2027 order guide actually says Two new engine codes, and why we are not quoting horsepower yet 17-inch wheels are gone: the new 18-inch base GVWR tops out at 12,300 pounds Adaptive cruise, bicyclist braking, and the SLT head-up display What did not change How to spec a 2027 order using only what is verified What Does the 2027 Order Guide Actually Say? It says the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD is the same seven-trim truck with changes under the hood codes, under the fenders, and in the standard safety list. It says nothing about towing, payload, curb weight, or engine output, because the first edition has no specification or trailering pages. Both halves matter when you are deciding what to order. Where the guide is silent, this post is silent too. The 2027 Sierra 2500 HD buyers guide carries the trim-by-trim detail; the sections below explain what each change means on a gravel section line. Two New Engine Codes: Why Are We Not Quoting Horsepower Yet? Because GM has not printed it. The 2027 guide lists the gas engine as code L8S, "V8 with direct injection and variable valve timing," and the diesel as code L6P, "Duramax turbo-diesel V8, B20-compatible." Neither line carries a displacement, horsepower, or torque figure. For reference, the 2026 Sierra 2500 HD on our lot is rated by GM at 401 hp and 464 lb-ft from its 6.6L gas V8 and 470 hp and 975 lb-ft from its 6.6L Duramax, and we are not assuming those numbers carry to the 2027 until GM says so. What we can say is what the guide says. The gas V8 is standard on the Pro through the Denali with the 3.73 axle and a 170-amp alternator; E85 capability has been dropped. The Duramax is available on the Pro through the Denali and standard on the Denali Ultimate, which is still not offered with gas. Every Duramax includes the block heater, the exhaust brake, the 220-amp alternator, and dual 730 CCA batteries, and it is the only engine that can take the winter grille cover. Dual alternators, 220 plus 170 amps, are available on every trim. Axle ratios stay fixed to the engine, 3.73 gas and 3.42 diesel. The transmission line is the other change. In the 2026 guide both gearboxes were simply "10-speed automatic." For 2027 the gas, diesel, and diesel PTO transmissions are each printed as "Allison 10-speed automatic." The PTO version is still limited to the Pro and SLE with the Duramax and 4WD. Gas buyers get the Allison name for the first time; whether anything mechanical changed inside is not something the guide says, so I will not say it either. The engine section of the 2027 guide keeps the current wording as GM updates it. What a new engine code does and does not mean A new RPO code is a signal that GM revised or replaced the engine, not proof of what changed. Any site printing 2027 horsepower or a 2027 tow rating today is either guessing or copying the 2026 figure and hoping. When the 2027 GM Trailering Guide lands we will update this post and the buyers guide the same day. 17-Inch Wheels Are Gone: What Is the New Base Wheel and Tire? The 18-inch machined aluminum wheel with dark grey pockets, last year's SLT wheel, is now the base retail wheel on the Pro and standard on the SLE and SLT. It rides on a new LT265/70R18E all-season tire with a matching spare. The 17-inch aluminum and steel wheels and the 17-inch tires do not appear anywhere in the 2027 guide. The rest of the ladder holds. An 18-inch steel wheel remains for fleet orders only. The LT275/70R18E all-terrain is standard on the SLT, available on the Pro and SLE, and included with the X31 Off-Road and Protection Package, which also brings the 20-inch bright-face wheel. The AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate keep their 20-inch wheels on LT275/65R20 all-terrains, the AT4 can still take the BFGoodrich KO3, and 20-inch and 22-inch dealer-installed wheels remain on those three. The AT4X gets a new 18-inch wheel code on its 35-inch LT305/70R18 mud-terrains, and the AEV Edition keeps its AEV Salta wheels. Here is why the wheel change is more than trim. The Max Trailering Package requires 18-inch or larger wheels, and until now a base Pro or SLE on 17s had to step up a wheel to take it. For 2027 every Sierra 2500 HD already meets that requirement, so the package decision is down to the Duramax, the cab, and the trim. One wrinkle: the all-season base tire is not available with the package, so a package truck goes on the all-terrain, which on a gravel section line is what I would recommend anyway. The 2027 towing and Max Trailering post walks through the package on the new truck. The 18-inch machined aluminum wheel with dark grey pockets is the floor of the 2027 lineup: base retail on the Pro, standard on the SLE and SLT, and already the size the Max Trailering Package asks for. GVWR Tops Out at 12,300 Pounds: What Does That Tell You? It tells you the 2027 truck is allowed to weigh more, loaded, than the 2026 truck was. GVWR is the most the truck itself may weigh with people, fuel, cargo, and the hitch weight of the trailer on it. The 2027 menu runs from 10,000 pounds with the lowered-GVWR option up to 12,300 pounds on a Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax with the Max Trailering Package. The 2026 ceiling was 11,900 pounds. A few points on the menu follow the cab and engine you pick. A Crew Cab standard bed 4WD Duramax with the package is 12,150 pounds; a Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax without it is 12,000 pounds; the same truck with the gas V8 is 11,350 pounds. The AT4X moves from 11,025 gas and 11,350 diesel in 2026 to 11,150 and 11,750 for 2027. The lowered 10,000-pound option is still offered on the Pro, SLE, SLT, Denali, and Denali Ultimate, not on the AT4 or AT4X, and it still reduces towing and payload. What GVWR does not tell you is the part to be careful with. It is not the trailer rating and it is not GCWR, the truck-and-trailer total. A higher GVWR usually means more payload, but payload is GVWR minus curb weight, and 2027 curb weights are unpublished, so there is no honest 2027 payload number to give you. The 2026 truck on our lot is rated up to 20,000 pounds conventional and 22,390 pounds gooseneck, properly equipped, and those 2026 figures are in the 2026 towing section. For the 2027, the trailering information label in the driver door jamb of the truck that arrives is the final word; until then the 2027 GVWR section is the only capability number we publish. Adaptive Cruise, Bicyclist Braking, and an SLT Head-Up Display: What Is New Inside? Three things, and the first is the biggest for a Pro, SLE, or SLT buyer. Adaptive cruise control is standard on all seven trims for 2027. On the 2026 truck the Pro, SLE, and SLT came with conventional cruise, and adaptive cruise took the SLE Preferred or SLT Preferred Package; only the AT4 and up had it standard. Now a base Pro work truck holds its following distance on Highway 12 the same way a Denali does, which on a February morning with a stock trailer behind you and a grain truck ahead is worth more than any chrome. Second, the standard Sierra HD Pro Safety group renames one of its pieces: Front Pedestrian Braking becomes Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking. The rest of the group, Forward Collision Alert, Following Distance Indicator, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, IntelliBeam, and Buckle to Drive, is unchanged and standard on every trim. Pro Safety Plus on the SLE and SLT still adds Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, park assist, and the trailer cameras on Crew and Double Cabs. Third, the Technology Package, the Rear Camera Mirror plus the 15-inch head-up display, reaches the SLT for the first time, with the SLT Preferred Package or the SLT Premium Package. On the 2026 truck it was AT4 and up only. The SLT is the volume trim on our lot, and the camera mirror is the piece I would push hardest for anyone who pulls a gooseneck stock trailer, because a loaded trailer blanks a regular mirror and the camera sees past it. It stays in the AT4 Premium Plus and Denali Reserve packages and standard on the AT4X and Denali Ultimate. What Did Not Change for 2027? Most of the truck. The seven trims are the same, and so are the cab rules: Pro in Regular, Double, or Crew Cab with 2WD or 4WD; SLE in all three cabs, 4WD only; SLT and up as Crew Cab 4WD only; AT4X as a Crew Cab standard bed only. The Denali Ultimate is still Duramax only. The Max Trailering Package still adds the 3500 HD frame, leaf springs, and shocks, the 12-inch rear axle, the spray-on bedliner, and the gooseneck and fifth-wheel prep; it still requires the Duramax and is still not offered on the Double Cab or the AT4X. Gooseneck prep is available on all seven trims. Snow Plow Prep, the heavy-duty front camper spring, and both X31 packages carry over with the same rules. Every trim package has the same contents it had, with one exception: the SLE Preferred Package no longer lists adaptive cruise because it is now standard. The eight colors carry over with no addition and no deletion; Coastal Dune and Glacier White Tricoat simply lose the "new" tag they wore in 2026. The interiors, the screens, the Bose systems, the MultiPro tailgate on the SLT and up, and the 12 tie-downs at 500 pounds each are unchanged. Everything the what-was-new-for-2026 section introduced last year is still here as the second-year version. How to Spec a 2027 Sierra 2500 HD Order Using Only What Is Verified You can build a sound 2027 order today without a single unpublished number, because every decision that matters is an equipment decision. Pick the engine by the job, not the rumor: the Duramax if you pull a gooseneck, want the Max Trailering Package, or need the PTO transmission; the gas V8 if the truck mostly carries and occasionally tows. Choose cab, bed, and drive: this sets your GVWR code. A Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax is the 12,000-pound truck without the package and the 12,300-pound truck with it. Decide on Max Trailering now: it cannot be added later, it needs the Duramax, and it is not available on the Double Cab or the AT4X. Pick the tire for the road you live on: the all-season base tire is fine for pavement; for county gravel take the all-terrain, which is required with the package anyway. Layer the packages: Snow Plow Prep and dual alternators for a winter truck; the SLT Preferred Package plus the Technology Package if you want the camera mirror. Read the label when it lands: the trailering information label in the driver door jamb carries the payload and trailer ratings for that specific truck. Compare it to the 2026 truck on our lot before you hook anything to it. Is the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD the One to Order? Worth it if Skip it (buy the rated 2026 on the lot) if You want adaptive cruise on a Pro, SLE, or SLT without paying for a package You are an SLT buyer who wants the camera mirror and head-up display You want the highest GVWR ceiling GM has put on a 2500 HD Your truck can arrive over the winter in the exact color, cab, and package you want You need a published tow rating and payload before you sign Calving, a hay contract, or a snow contract needs the truck this fall You want to see, drive, and weigh the exact truck first You are matching the truck to a trailer that is already near the limit Key Takeaways The 2027 Sierra 2500 HD carries new engine codes, L8S gas and L6P Duramax, and both transmissions are now printed as Allison 10-speed automatics. GM has not published 2027 horsepower, torque, towing, or payload; the only new capability number is a GVWR ceiling of 12,300 pounds. 17-inch wheels are gone; the 18-inch aluminum wheel is the base, which means every 2027 already meets the Max Trailering Package wheel requirement. Adaptive cruise control is standard on all seven trims, and the Technology Package reaches the SLT. Trims, cab rules, the eight colors, and the Max Trailering Package rules are unchanged; the rated 2026 truck is on our lot today. Frequently Asked Questions Is the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD engine new? The codes are new: L8S for the gas V8 with direct injection and variable valve timing, and L6P for the Duramax turbo-diesel V8, B20-compatible. GM has not printed displacement, horsepower, or torque for either one, so we do not know yet what changed inside. Both pair with an Allison 10-speed automatic. What is the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD towing capacity? Not published yet. The 2027 order guide has no trailering pages; the ratings will come in the GM Trailering Guide. The 2026 Sierra 2500 HD on our lot is rated up to 20,000 pounds conventional and 22,390 pounds gooseneck, properly equipped, and those 2026 figures are the ones to shop against today. When a 2027 arrives, the trailering information label in the driver door jamb carries its rating. Are 17-inch wheels still offered on the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD? No. The 18-inch machined aluminum wheel on an LT265/70R18E all-season tire is the retail base, an 18-inch steel wheel is fleet-only, and the all-terrain, 20-inch, 22-inch, and AT4X 35-inch options sit above that. Every 2027 Sierra 2500 HD therefore meets the Max Trailering Package wheel requirement from the factory. Is adaptive cruise control standard on the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD? Yes, on all seven trims, including the Pro work truck; conventional cruise control is no longer listed. On the 2026 truck, adaptive cruise was standard only from the AT4 up and took a package on the SLE and SLT. My Take on What Is New for 2027 The honest headline is that the 2027 Sierra 2500 HD is a better-equipped version of a truck that did not need fixing, with one large unknown attached. Standard adaptive cruise on a Pro, the camera mirror on an SLT, 18-inch wheels on every truck, and a higher GVWR ceiling are real, verified, and worth having. The engine codes are new and the numbers are not out, and I would rather say that plainly than print a figure I cannot stand behind at the scale. If your operation can wait for a truck that builds over the winter, spec it on equipment the way the how-to above lays out. If you need a rated truck before calving, the 2026 on our lot is the same seven trims with every number already in the door, and I will put both in front of you side by side. The full trim, package, wheel, GVWR, and safety detail lives in the 2027 GMC Sierra 2500 HD buyers guide, and the rated 2026 truck is in the 2026 buyers guide. 12,700 Pounds Single Rear Wheel, 14,000 Dually: What the 2027 Sierra 3500 HD GVWR Tells You (and What It Does Not)

There is exactly one kind of capability number GM has published for the 2027 GMC Sierra 3500 HD so far, and it is GVWR. Every single-rear-wheel model moved up between 250 and 450 pounds, the new single-rear-wheel ceiling is 12,700 pounds on a 4WD Crew Cab long bed with the Duramax, and the dually stays where it has been at 14,000 pounds. No 2027 towing rating, payload figure, GCWR, or curb weight has been published, so this post works with what exists. That is worth an article of its own, because GVWR is the most misread number on a one-ton. A higher GVWR is a higher legal ceiling for what the truck may weigh when it is loaded, not a promise about what it will pull. If you want figures you can take to a scale today, the 2026 Sierra 3500 HD payload section carries the rated trucks in our yard, and the what-is-new-for-2027 post covers the rest of the changes. View Sierra 3500 HD Inventory Get Pre-Qualified On This Page What GVWR actually measures The full 2027 GVWR menu, 2027 against 2026 Why the dually stayed at 14,000 pounds Why a higher GVWR is not a 2027 payload number GVWR, GCWR, and the trailer rating are three different things How to use these numbers when you spec a 2027 order What Does GVWR Actually Measure? GVWR is the maximum the truck itself is allowed to weigh once everything is in it: the truck, fuel, you, your passengers, the tools and the mineral tub in the bed, the hitch, and the weight the trailer puts down on the truck through a ball, a gooseneck ball, or a fifth-wheel plate. It is a single ceiling for the whole loaded vehicle, and it is set by the frame, springs, axles, brakes, and tires as a system. Two things follow from that definition, and both of them trip people up in the yard. First, trailer tongue or kingpin weight counts against GVWR, which is why a truck that looks empty can be near its ceiling the second you drop a loaded gooseneck on the ball. GM puts the kingpin load on a gooseneck at 15 to 25 percent of trailer weight and the tongue load on a conventional hitch at 10 to 15 percent, so a 20,000-pound gooseneck load can be putting three tons and change through the bed. Second, GVWR is a limit, not an achievement. A 12,700-pound truck is not automatically a better hauler than a 12,250-pound truck; it is a truck that is permitted to weigh more when loaded. What it can carry on top of its own curb weight is payload, and that is a different number that GM has not published for 2027 yet. The four numbers that matter, in plain terms GVWR is the most the loaded truck may weigh. GAWR is the most each axle may carry. Payload is GVWR minus what your specific truck actually weighs empty. GCWR is the most the truck and trailer together may weigh. Four different ceilings, and you have to clear all four at once. What Does the 2027 GVWR Menu Look Like, Model by Model? It runs from 11,250 pounds on a 2WD Regular Cab with the gas V8 up to 12,700 pounds on a 4WD Crew Cab long bed with the Duramax, and then jumps to 14,000 pounds the moment you add dual rear wheels. Every single-rear-wheel configuration is 250 to 450 pounds higher than the same configuration was in 2026. There is still no lowered-GVWR option on the 3500 HD, so you cannot order the ceiling down. Configuration 2027 GVWR 2026 GVWR, same configuration 2WD Regular Cab, gas V8, single rear wheel 11,250 lb 10,950 lb 2WD Crew Cab standard bed, gas V8 11,500 lb 11,200 lb 2WD Crew Cab long bed, 2WD Double Cab, or 4WD Regular Cab, gas V8 11,600 lb 11,350 / 11,300 / 11,300 lb 4WD Crew Cab standard bed, gas V8 11,850 lb 11,550 lb 4WD Double Cab, gas V8 11,900 lb 11,600 lb 2WD Regular Cab, Duramax 11,900 lb 11,500 lb 4WD Crew Cab long bed, gas V8 12,000 lb 11,700 lb 4WD Regular Cab, Duramax 12,250 lb 11,800 lb 4WD Crew Cab standard bed or 4WD Double Cab, Duramax 12,500 lb 12,100 / 12,150 lb 4WD Crew Cab long bed, Duramax (single-rear-wheel maximum) 12,700 lb 12,250 lb Any dual-rear-wheel long bed, gas or Duramax 14,000 lb 14,000 lb One more line from the 2027 listing belongs here, because it changes which rows you can even shop. GM lists the Duramax on every 4WD model and on the 2WD Regular Cab; a 2WD Crew Cab or Double Cab is gas-only for 2027. Around here that is mostly a footnote, since almost everything we stock and order is 4WD, but if you were planning a cheaper 2WD crew with the diesel, plan on 4WD or a Regular Cab instead. A warning for anyone who reads codes rather than configurations: GM reused several GVWR codes for 2027 with different meanings, so a code that meant one truck last year can mean another this year. Match by cab, bed, drive, and engine, never by the three-character code. The 2027 GVWR section of the buyers guide keeps the current pairing, and we will update it when GM revises it. Why Did the Dually Stay at 14,000 Pounds? Because the dually was never the truck that needed more ceiling. Dual rear wheels put four tires under the back axle and come with a much higher rear axle rating, and at 14,000 pounds the dually already sits more than a thousand pounds above the best single-rear-wheel truck. For 2027 that number did not move, and the rule that gets you there did not move either: dual rear wheels require a long bed and the 14,000-pound GVWR, and they are offered on the Pro, SLE, SLT, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. The AT4 is still single rear wheel only. What that unchanged 14,000 does is keep the paperwork side of your operation exactly where it was. A truck rated at 14,000 pounds is well above the 10,001-pound line where most commercial vehicle rules start, and the combination weight of truck plus trailer matters separately once you are hauling for hire or crossing a state line for business. None of that changed between 2026 and 2027. It is still worth a call to your carrier and to the state before you assume anything, because how you use the truck matters as much as what it is rated at. The practical read for a cow-calf outfit or a hotshot deck: if your loaded gooseneck kingpin weight was already pushing a single-rear-wheel truck to its ceiling in 2026, the 2027 single-rear-wheel bump of a few hundred pounds does not change the answer. You still want the dually. The GCWR and hotshot post works a full combination through with the rated 2026 figures. The only place your truck's real numbers live Every Sierra 3500 HD carries a trailering information label in the driver door jamb with the tongue weight, conventional, gooseneck, and fifth-wheel ratings for that exact VIN, and a tire and loading placard with the payload for that truck as built. Those two labels beat any web page, including this one. Kingpin weight lands right here, in the bed, and it counts against GVWR before the first bale is loaded. The gooseneck and fifth-wheel prep package is available on all six trims for 2027. Does a Higher GVWR Mean a Higher 2027 Payload? It points that direction, but there is no honest 2027 payload number to give you. Payload is GVWR minus the curb weight of that specific truck as it was built, and GM has not published 2027 curb weights. If the trucks weigh the same as they did in 2026, single-rear-wheel payload would rise by the same 250 to 450 pounds the ceiling did and dually payload would not move at all. That is a reasonable expectation, not a figure, and I will not print it as one. The 2026 truck is the one with real numbers on it, and they are worth knowing because they set the shape of the decision. On a 2026 4WD Crew Cab long bed, the single-rear-wheel truck carries 4,412 pounds with the gas V8 and 4,195 pounds with the Duramax, while the same cab as a dually carries 6,378 pounds with gas and 5,647 pounds with the Duramax. A dually adds roughly a ton of payload over the same cab on single rear wheels, and the Duramax costs a few hundred pounds of payload against the gas V8 because the engine itself is heavier. Also worth knowing: GM does not publish a payload figure for the Denali at all, in either year, so if a site quotes one for a Denali, it came from somewhere other than GM. Payload on those trucks varies by equipment, and the placard in the door jamb is the answer for the truck in front of you. The full 2026 set sits in the payload section of the 2026 buyers guide. Is GVWR the Same as a Trailer Rating or GCWR? No, and this is where most of the confusion out here starts. GVWR covers the truck alone. GCWR covers the truck and the trailer added together. The trailer rating is what GM says that configuration may pull, and it is derived from GCWR minus the weight of the truck as it sits loaded. Raise GVWR and you have raised one of three ceilings. For 2027 GM has not published towing ratings or GCWR; those will come in the GM Trailering Guide, and we will update our pages the day they land. The 2026 figures show why the difference matters. A 2026 Sierra 3500 HD with the Duramax carries a GCWR of 30,000 pounds on single rear wheels and 40,000 pounds as a dually, properly equipped, and the gas V8 trucks are rated at 26,000 pounds. Those combination ceilings are what actually stop a big gooseneck load, long before the trailer rating on the sticker does. The 2026 trailer numbers tell the same story: up to 20,000 pounds conventional, and 31,000 pounds on a gooseneck for a 4WD Crew Cab long bed dually with the Duramax, 31,440 pounds for the 2WD version of that truck, all properly equipped. Those are 2026 ratings on 2026 trucks and I am not carrying them forward. The gooseneck math post runs a loaded stock trailer and a hay flatbed through all three ceilings step by step. How to Use These Numbers When You Spec a 2027 Order You can build a sound 2027 order without a single unpublished figure, as long as you start from your load instead of from the brochure. Weigh what you actually pull: take the loaded trailer across a certified scale in the worst case you run, whether that is a full deck of bales in July or a trailer of pairs in April. Guessing at this step ruins every number after it. Figure the weight that lands on the truck: a gooseneck kingpin typically runs 15 to 25 percent of trailer weight and a conventional tongue 10 to 15 percent. That figure comes straight off your GVWR before anything else goes in the truck. Choose single rear wheel or dually on that basis: if kingpin weight plus people, fuel, and bed cargo crowds a single-rear-wheel ceiling, order the dually and its 14,000 pounds. A few hundred pounds of extra 2027 ceiling does not rescue a marginal single-rear-wheel plan. Pick cab, bed, drive, and engine together: those four choices set your GVWR row, and the Duramax is listed on 4WD models and the 2WD Regular Cab for 2027. Add the capability equipment while the order is open: gooseneck and fifth-wheel prep, the trailer brake controller that is already standard, trailer tire pressure sensors, and the camera package cannot be added after the truck is built. Read both labels the day it lands: check the trailering information label in the driver door jamb and the loading placard against the trailer you own, and bring the truck across a scale loaded the way you really run it. Is the Higher 2027 GVWR a Reason to Order? Worth it if Skip it (buy a rated 2026) if You run a single-rear-wheel truck that sits close to its ceiling with a loaded gooseneck You want a 4WD Crew Cab long bed Duramax and the highest ceiling GM has listed on this truck You are replacing a truck next spring and want your own color, cab, and package You can wait for published ratings before the trailer changes You need a published trailer rating, GCWR, or payload figure before you sign You are already ordering a dually, where the 14,000-pound ceiling did not move Calving, a hay contract, or a snow contract needs the truck this fall You want to weigh and scale the exact truck before it is yours Key Takeaways GVWR is the only new 2027 Sierra 3500 HD capability number GM has published: 11,250 to 12,700 pounds single rear wheel, 14,000 pounds on every dually. Every single-rear-wheel configuration gained 250 to 450 pounds of ceiling over 2026; the dually number did not move. GVWR is not payload, not GCWR, and not a trailer rating; 2027 curb weights and ratings are still unpublished. Gooseneck kingpin weight, roughly 15 to 25 percent of trailer weight, counts against GVWR before anything else goes in the truck. GM lists the 2027 Duramax on 4WD models and the 2WD Regular Cab, and the door-jamb label is the final word on any truck you buy. Frequently Asked Questions What is the GVWR of a 2027 GMC Sierra 3500 HD? Your cab, bed, drive, and engine set it. Single-rear-wheel models run from 11,250 pounds on a 2WD Regular Cab with the gas V8 to 12,700 pounds on a 4WD Crew Cab long bed with the Duramax. Every dual-rear-wheel model is 14,000 pounds. There is no lowered-GVWR option on the 3500 HD. Does the higher 2027 GVWR mean the truck tows more? Not necessarily. GVWR limits the loaded truck; trailer ratings come from GCWR, which GM has not published for 2027. For reference, the 2026 Duramax trucks carry a GCWR of 30,000 pounds on single rear wheels and 40,000 pounds as a dually, properly equipped, with conventional towing up to 20,000 pounds. What is the 2027 Sierra 3500 HD payload? Not published. Payload is GVWR minus curb weight, and 2027 curb weights have not been released, so no honest 2027 payload figure exists yet. On the 2026 truck, a 4WD Crew Cab long bed dually carries 6,378 pounds with the gas V8 and 5,647 pounds with the Duramax, and the loading placard in the door jamb carries the figure for any specific truck. Did the dually GVWR change for 2027? No. Every dual-rear-wheel Sierra 3500 HD is still rated at 14,000 pounds, and dual rear wheels still require a long bed. That keeps the commercial and licensing questions exactly where they were in 2026, though how you use the truck matters as much as its rating, so check with your carrier and the state. My Take on the 2027 GVWR Numbers A few hundred pounds of extra ceiling on a single-rear-wheel one-ton is a real gain for the contractor with a service body or the rancher who carries a bale bed and still wants a truck that fits the shop door. It is not the headline a lot of websites will make of it, and it is certainly not a towing story. Until GM publishes 2027 ratings, anyone printing a 2027 tow number is copying last year's figure and hoping. If you are close to the line today, the honest answer is still the dually, and that ceiling did not change. If you have a trailer you already own, bring me its loaded weight and we will work backward from it rather than forward from a brochure. That is a twenty-minute conversation at the tailgate and it saves people real money. 2026 GMC Sierra 2500 HD SLT in Titanium Rush Metallic pulling a combine header trailer at dawn on a gravel road near Mobridge, South Dakota

The Custom Harvester's Sierra 2500 HD: 30,000-lb GCWR, Long Days, and the Texas-to-Dakotas Run

The custom harvest crews that stop at Beadle Chevrolet GMC on their way north do not shop the way a rancher shops. They are asking whether one truck can pull the header trailer out of a Texas wheat field in May, drag the service trailer up US 83 through Kansas and Nebraska, and back a fuel trailer into a North Dakota elevator lot in September, day after day, with a driver who has already logged twelve hours. For the 2026 GMC Sierra 2500 HD, that is a gross combined weight question before it is anything else. Short answer: a Crew Cab long bed 4WD Sierra 2500 HD with the Duramax and the Max Trailering Package carries a 30,000-pound gross combined weight rating, a 21,500-pound gooseneck rating, and a 20,000-pound conventional rating, properly equipped. That is enough truck for a header trailer, a fuel trailer, and most service trailers a three-quarter-ton crew runs. The rest of this post covers what the tow rating does not tell you: the tank, the transmission on a long day, the cameras at the elevator, and which trim holds up on the road from March to October. View Sierra 2500 HD Inventory Get Pre-Qualified On This Page Why the harvest run is a GCWR question Header, fuel, and service trailers against the Crew Cab long bed ratings The 36-gallon tank and the 10-speed on 14-hour days Trailer tire pressure, trailer cameras, and HD Surround Vision at the elevator SLT or AT4 for a fleet that lives on the road How to order a harvest-crew Sierra 2500 HD before the season Why Is the Harvest Run a GCWR Question? Because a harvest truck never runs empty. Gross combined weight rating is the truck and the trailer together, and on a Sierra 2500 HD Duramax it is 26,000 pounds standard, 27,500 pounds on a Crew Cab with 18-inch or larger wheels, and 30,000 pounds with the Max Trailering Package. A rancher hauling pairs bumps against the tow rating or the payload. A crew truck with three people, a full tank, a toolbox, and the heaviest trailer in the fleet bumps against all three, and GCWR adds them up. The full rating tables are in our 2026 Sierra 2500 HD buyers guide. The Max Trailering Package moves the number from 27,500 to 30,000 pounds, and it only comes with the Duramax. The diesel brings its own pieces to a long-haul truck: 470 horsepower, 975 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 rpm, a 3.42 rear axle that lets the engine loaf at highway speed, an exhaust brake for the river grades, a 220-amp alternator, and dual batteries. The Max Trailering Package post covers the 3500 HD frame, springs, and rear axle that earn the rating. One caution for a commercial operation. GCWR is the manufacturer's rating, not your registered weight or an axle limit at a scale house; those live in your carrier paperwork. It tells you whether the truck is built for the combination you run, and the trailering information label in the driver door jamb of the specific truck is the final word on it. Can It Handle a Header Trailer, a Fuel Trailer, and a Service Trailer? Yes, one at a time and within the label, on a Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax. That truck is rated 19,000 pounds gooseneck without the Max Trailering Package and 21,500 pounds with it, 18,500 and 20,000 pounds conventional, with 3,566 pounds of payload, properly equipped. Here is how the three trailers a crew runs land against those numbers. The trailer weights are illustrations; a scale ticket replaces them. Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax, 2026 Sierra 2500 HD Without Max Trailering With Max Trailering Gooseneck / fifth-wheel rating 19,000 lb 21,500 lb Conventional rating 18,500 lb 20,000 lb GCWR 27,500 lb (18-inch or larger wheels) 30,000 lb Max payload 3,566 lb confirm on the label for the build Fuel tank 36 gallons 36 gallons The header trailer, for illustration. Say a 40-foot draper header on a tandem-axle header trailer runs 12,000 pounds on the gooseneck ball. That is well inside 19,000 pounds, a 20 percent pin is about 2,400 pounds, and with an 8,000-pound loaded truck you are near 20,000 pounds combined. A single header does not decide the package. The fuel trailer, for illustration. A 990-gallon bumper-pull fuel trailer with a full tank of diesel and a DEF tote lands around 10,000 pounds. That is a conventional-hitch load against 18,500 pounds, easy on the rating and hard on the driver, because it is the trailer most crews back into the tightest spots. The service trailer, for illustration. A 24-foot enclosed gooseneck shop trailer with a welder, a compressor, a parts rack, and a season of tools can weigh 15,000 to 16,000 pounds loaded. Now it tightens: a 20 percent pin is about 3,000 pounds against 3,566 of payload, and combined weight is 23,000 to 24,000 pounds. A double header trailer at, say, 18,000 pounds puts you at 26,000 combined before the crew climbs in. That is the trailer that turns 27,500 into a tight number and 30,000 into a working one. It is the pattern the gooseneck stock-trailer post walks through for ranchers: pin weight and people use up payload before the tow rating does. The package does not add payload, so weigh the pin on the loaded service trailer first. How Do the 36-Gallon Tank and the 10-Speed Hold Up on a 14-Hour Day? Every Crew Cab Sierra 2500 HD carries a 36-gallon tank with either engine, and the Duramax pairs it with an Allison-derived 10-speed automatic and a 3.42 axle that keep the engine near its 1,600 rpm torque peak with the trailer on. We do not print a fuel figure for this weight class because none is published; what the tank gives you is the ability to plan stops around the elevator line instead of the gauge. A Regular Cab diesel carries 28 gallons and a Double Cab standard-bed diesel 29, and from the Oklahoma line to Mobridge that difference is a fuel stop a day with a trailer on. The 10-speed does the other half: it holds a highway gear on the flat, drops two without a lurch when US 83 climbs out of the Missouri breaks north of Pierre, and the exhaust brake takes the trailer back down without cooking the pads. Then there is the driver, the real limit on a 14-hour day. On the SLT the pieces that help are ventilated front seats and wireless charging with the SLT Convenience Package, adaptive cruise control and heated rear seats with the SLT Preferred Package, and the standard Bose 7-speaker audio and 13.4-inch screen with Google built-in. The Duramax's 220-amp alternator and dual batteries carry the radio, the ELD, and the cooler. Whether the diesel earns its price is the subject of the Duramax-versus-gas post; for a crew running 500 to 1,500 miles a week loaded, we have never had that argument. The AT4 cabin: the seat a crew driver lives in from the Texas line to the Canadian border deserves as much of the decision as the frame does. What Do Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring and the Cameras Do at the Elevator? They turn the two things that end a harvest day early, a trailer tire letting go on the interstate and a bent fender in an elevator lot, into things you see coming. The In-Vehicle Trailering App on the SLT and up, or on an SLE with the Preferred Package, shows trailer tire pressure and temperature on the truck's screen once accessory sensors are on the trailer's wheels. Trailer Camera Provisions feed a rear trailer camera to the same screen, and HD Surround Vision gives a top-down view of the truck's corners while you back. On a crew truck these get used every day. A header trailer tire running hot since Salina shows up as a number on the screen instead of rubber on the shoulder, and the app's light check replaces the walk-around that gets skipped on the third hookup of the day. The sensors are an accessory, so tell us how many trailers you run and we will price them with the truck. At the elevator, Hitch View plus a rear trailer camera puts both ends of the rig on the screen while you back a fuel trailer between a probe stand and a pile of augers. Where the trailering tech lives on the 2026 truck Standard on every trim: receiver hitch, 7-pin and 4-pin connectors, integrated trailer brake controller, Hitch Guidance, and trailer sway control. ProGrade Trailering (Hitch View and the In-Vehicle Trailering App) is standard on SLT and up and comes to the SLE with the Preferred Package. Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Bed View, HD Surround Vision, and Trailer Camera Provisions are part of Sierra HD Pro Safety Plus on Crew Cab SLE and SLT trucks; the SLT Premium Package bundles it. Our 2026 Sierra 2500 HD buyers guide lists every package by trim. SLT or AT4 for a Fleet That Lives on the Road? For a crew truck that spends its season on pavement and elevator gravel, the SLT is the better tool, and it is what we recommend when a harvester is buying more than one. It takes the Max Trailering Package, its standard 18-inch wheels meet the package's wheel requirement, and it tows the most of any Crew Cab trim. The AT4 is a legitimate harvest truck, but its 20-inch wheels and off-road suspension cost it a little rating and payload. 2026 Sierra 2500 HD, Crew Cab 4WD Duramax SLT AT4 Gooseneck, long bed, with Max Trailering 21,500 lb 21,190 lb Gooseneck, long bed, without the package 19,000 lb 18,000 lb Max payload, Duramax 3,566 lb (long bed) 3,235 lb (standard bed); ask us for the long bed label Standard wheels and tires 18-inch machined aluminum, LT275/70R18 all-terrain 20-inch high-gloss black; BFGoodrich KO3 available Suspension Standard HD suspension X31 off-road with twin-tube shocks, skid plates, Hill Descent Control Interior Leather, Jet Black or Dark Walnut and Slate Jet Black leather with Kalahari accents Both are Crew Cab and 4WD only with the Autotrac transfer case, the MultiPro tailgate, Bose audio, and the trailering app standard. The SLT's 18-inch all-terrains are cheaper to replace in a Kansas tire shop in June than 20s, its long bed carries more payload, and its Premium Package bundles the full camera and alert set. On the AT4, ask us which camera content is on the specific truck; its packages lean toward the sunroof and the head-up display. A word on the AT4X, since somebody on every crew wants one: it cannot take the Max Trailering Package, its 35-inch mud-terrain tires are the wrong tire for 70,000 highway miles a year, and its Duramax gooseneck rating is 17,300 pounds. It is a pasture truck, not a harvest truck. For a fleet, the SLT in Summit White, Glacier White Tricoat, or Titanium Rush Metallic is the order we write most. How to Order a Harvest-Crew Sierra 2500 HD Before the Season Crews buy on a calendar: the wheat run leaves for Texas in March and the hay crews prep in April and May, so a truck that is not in the yard by then is next year's truck. Here is how we handle a fleet order at Beadle. Weigh the fleet: run the loaded service trailer, the header trailer, and the fuel trailer across the elevator scale before the season ends, and weigh the pin on the heaviest gooseneck. Those tickets set the configuration. Spec the truck: Crew Cab long bed 4WD, Duramax, Max Trailering Package, SLT with the Premium Package for the camera and alert set, and trailer tire pressure sensors for every trailer. Add the Snow Plow Prep and Camper Package if the same truck feeds cattle in January. Check the label: when the truck lands, confirm the gooseneck, conventional, payload, and GCWR figures on the trailering information label in the driver door jamb against the scale tickets. If payload is thin, that is the moment to talk about a 3500 HD for the shop trailer. Order early: bring us the fleet plan in the fall or right after the first of the year. A factory order needs lead time, and a truck ordered in January can be prepped, hitched, and sensor-equipped before the crew leaves in March. Ask us for current pricing and any fleet or commercial programs on a multi-truck buy. Set up service on the way through: Mobridge sits on US 12 and US 83, and our service department runs Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to noon. Schedule the oil change for the northbound pass so the truck is not down during the 21 days that matter. Is the Sierra 2500 HD the Right Truck for a Custom Harvest Crew? Worth it if Skip it (look at the 3500 HD) if Your heaviest loaded trailer is under about 21,500 pounds gooseneck or 20,000 pounds conventional, with the Max Trailering Package Truck and trailer together stay under 30,000 pounds with room to spare Pin weight plus a full cab and bed stays under the payload on the label The truck doubles as a crew hauler and a parts runner Your service trailer or double header trailer puts more than about 3,000 pounds on the pin with a full crew aboard You are within 10 percent of both the GCWR and the payload on every hookup You want a loaded grain trailer or a tandem-dual equipment trailer behind the same truck You need one truck to cover every trailer in the fleet Key Takeaways A harvest truck is judged on GCWR: 27,500 pounds on a Crew Cab Duramax with 18-inch or larger wheels, 30,000 pounds with the Max Trailering Package, which requires the Duramax. A Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax is rated 19,000 pounds gooseneck, 21,500 with the package, 18,500 and 20,000 conventional, with 3,566 pounds of payload, properly equipped. A header trailer or a fuel trailer is easy on the ratings; the loaded service trailer and a double header trailer are what make the 30,000-pound GCWR and the payload margin matter. Every Crew Cab carries a 36-gallon tank; trailer tire pressure shows on the SLT's screen with accessory sensors, and the SLT Premium Package bundles the camera and alert set. Weigh the trailers and the pin, confirm the label in the driver door jamb, and order in the fall or January so the trucks are ready for the March wheat run. Frequently Asked Questions What is the GCWR of a 2026 Sierra 2500 HD with the Max Trailering Package? 30,000 pounds. Without the package a Duramax Sierra 2500 HD is rated 26,000 pounds, or 27,500 pounds on a Crew Cab with 18-inch or larger wheels. The gas V8 is rated 24,500 or 26,000 pounds depending on wheels and cannot take the package. The figure for your truck is on the trailering information label in the driver door jamb. Does the Sierra 2500 HD monitor trailer tire pressure? Yes, with accessory sensors on the trailer. The In-Vehicle Trailering App, standard on SLT and up and available on the SLE with the Preferred Package, shows trailer tire pressure and temperature on the truck's screen once the sensors are installed. Plan on a set for each trailer that rides behind the truck. How big is the fuel tank on a 2026 Sierra 2500 HD Crew Cab? 36 gallons with either the Duramax or the 6.6L gas V8. A Regular Cab Duramax carries 28 gallons and a Double Cab standard-bed Duramax 29, one more reason the Crew Cab is the harvest-crew truck. No fuel economy figure is published for this weight class, so we do not print one. Can I get the Max Trailering Package on an AT4? Yes. The package is available on Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate, and it requires the Duramax and 18-inch or larger wheels. An AT4 Crew Cab long bed with the Duramax and the package is rated 21,190 pounds gooseneck and 20,000 pounds conventional, properly equipped. The AT4X and the AT4X AEV Edition cannot take it, and neither can a Double Cab. My Take on the Sierra 2500 HD as a Harvest-Crew Truck I have watched crews roll through Mobridge every summer, and the trucks that come back the next year are the ones spec'd for the heaviest trailer in the fleet, not the average one. For a three-quarter-ton, that spec is settled: Crew Cab long bed 4WD, Duramax, Max Trailering Package, SLT. It gives you 30,000 pounds of GCWR, 21,500 pounds of gooseneck rating, a 36-gallon tank, and the trailering app and cameras a crew driver uses at six in the morning in a strange elevator lot. What I will not do is tell you the 2500 HD is the truck for every trailer you own. If the loaded shop trailer puts more than about 3,000 pounds on the pin with a full crew aboard, that trailer belongs behind a 3500 HD, and the 2500 HD belongs in front of the headers and the fuel. Most crews we work with run both. The full towing and payload tables, engines, trims, and packages are in the 2026 GMC Sierra 2500 HD buyers guide. The 17-Inch Dually Wheel Is Gone: 18-Inch Wheels and LT235/80R18 Tires on Every 2027 Sierra 3500 HD Dually

GM published the 2027 GMC Sierra 3500 HD ordering information on September 18, and the change most likely to show up first at your tire shop has nothing to do with horsepower. The 17-inch dually wheel is gone. So is the LT235/80R17E tire that went with it, the painted center caps, the chrome wheel skins, and the 17-inch spare. Every 2027 Sierra 3500 HD dually now leaves the factory on 18-inch wheels wearing LT235/80R18 tires: silver painted steel on the Pro, polished forged aluminum on the SLE, SLT, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. That is a real change for anyone who keeps a spare on the hay trailer or buys six tires at a time, and it is worth understanding before you spec an order. What it is not is a capability change you can put a number on: GM has not published 2027 towing, payload, or GCWR figures yet. If you want the fully rated truck, the 2026 Sierra 3500 HD buyers guide covers the trucks on our lot, and the what-is-new-for-2027 post walks the rest of the changes. The 17-inch dual-rear-wheel package was deleted in its entirety. The 17-inch painted steel wheel, the painted center caps, the chrome wheel skins, the LT235/80R17E tire, and the 17-inch spare are all absent from the 2027 listing. In their place, a new 18-inch silver painted steel wheel becomes the Pro dually wheel, the 18-inch polished forged aluminum wheel becomes the included wheel on the SLE and SLT duallys, and the LT235/80R18 all-terrain is now the only dually tire GM lists. Where GM is silent, this post is silent too. The trim-by-trim detail sits in the 2027 Sierra 3500 HD wheels and tires section. Which 18-Inch Wheel Comes on Which 2027 Dually? Two wheels cover the whole dually lineup. The Pro gets the 18-inch silver painted steel wheel with a painted center cap. The SLE, SLT, Denali, and Denali Ultimate get the 18-inch polished forged aluminum wheel, with a chrome center cap on the SLE and SLT and Denali caps on the two Denali trims. A Pro ordered with the Max Trailering Package also moves up to the polished forged wheel, because that package includes it. For the SLE and SLT that is a quiet upgrade. In 2026 those two duallys came on the painted steel wheel with chrome skins, and the polished forged wheel was something you added. For 2027 it comes with the truck. If you have ever pulled a skin off to get at a lug nut in a February wind on Highway 12, or watched one work loose and go rolling into a ditch, you already know why that matters more than it looks. One rule has not moved: the dually itself. Dual rear wheels still require a long bed and the 14,000-pound GVWR, and they are offered on the Pro, SLE, SLT, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. The AT4 is still single rear wheel only, so no 2027 AT4 wears these wheels. If you are still working out which side of that line you belong on, the single rear wheel or dually post lays out the whole decision with the rated 2026 numbers attached. What a wheel change does not change A different wheel and tire size does not by itself make a truck tow or carry more. Ratings come from the whole package of frame, springs, axles, brakes, engine, and tires together, and GM publishes them by configuration. Treat any site quoting a 2027 rating today with suspicion, and read the trailering information label in the driver door jamb of the truck you actually take home. Why Does One Tire Size Across Six Wheels Matter Out Here? Because a dually is a six-tire truck plus a spare, and you are usually a long way from a tire shop when you find that out. With one size on the whole 2027 dually lineup, the shop in Mobridge or Selby stocks one size, your spare fits any corner, and a used pair off a trade fits your neighbor's truck. Before 2027, a Pro or an SLE on 17s and a Denali on 18s needed two different tires on the same yard. The practical picture for a cow-calf outfit or a hotshot deck: you are buying six tires at a time, and they wear at different rates because the inside duals live a harder life than the outsides. Rotating on a schedule and checking pressure cold, before the gravel heats them up, is the cheapest maintenance on a one-ton. A gooseneck load of bales up the grade out of the river breaks on a July afternoon is exactly the moment an underinflated inside dual decides to quit. The 2027 dually tire is an all-terrain, which is the tread I would have recommended anyway for county gravel and a winter that runs from the first snow contract in November into March. Six matching all-terrains and a matching spare is a simpler truck to own than it sounds on paper. If you run a 2026 dually and a 2027 dually side by side A 2026 Denali dually, a 2026 truck with the Max Trailering Package, and every 2027 dually all take the same LT235/80R18. A 2026 Pro, SLE, or SLT dually on the 17-inch steel wheel does not. Check the sidewall before you assume a spare crosses between two trucks in your yard. Six tires, one size, one spare. For 2027 every Sierra 3500 HD dually rolls on 18-inch wheels and LT235/80R18 tires, whether it is a Pro work truck or a Denali Ultimate. Did Anything Change on the Single-Rear-Wheel Side? No. The single-rear-wheel ladder carries over exactly as it was. The Pro starts on an 18-inch painted steel wheel and can move to the 18-inch machined aluminum with dark grey accents, which is included on the SLE and SLT. The SLE and SLT can step to a 20-inch bright-face wheel with dark painted pockets. The AT4 keeps its 20-inch high-gloss black wheel, the Denali its 20-inch ultra-bright machined wheel with chrome inserts, and the Denali Ultimate its 20-inch with gloss black inserts. Tires on that side are unchanged too: an LT275/70R18E all-terrain on the 18-inch wheels, an LT275/65R20 all-terrain on the 20s, and the BFGoodrich KO3 as an AT4 option. Dealer-installed 20-inch wheels remain available on the AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. Two limits are worth repeating because they come up on the lot every month. The 20-inch wheels are single-rear-wheel only, so there is no 20-inch dually from the factory in 2027 any more than there was in 2026. And there is still no 22-inch wheel anywhere on the Sierra 3500 HD. If you want a big wheel look, that decision is really a decision to stay on single rear wheels. Does an 18-Inch Wheel Change What the 2027 Truck Can Pull or Carry? Nobody can answer that honestly yet, and I am not going to pretend otherwise. GM has not published 2027 towing, payload, or GCWR figures; those ratings will come in the GM Trailering Guide. The 14,000-pound dually GVWR carries over unchanged for 2027, which tells you the dually side of the lineup is not being repositioned, but a GVWR is not a trailer rating. Here is the honest reference point. The 2026 Sierra 3500 HD is rated by GM, properly equipped, at up to 20,000 pounds conventional, and a 2026 4WD Crew Cab long bed dually with the Duramax is rated at 31,000 pounds on a gooseneck, 31,440 pounds in 2WD. Those are 2026 numbers on 2026 trucks, and they sit in the 2026 Sierra 3500 HD buyers guide with the full configuration attached. I will not carry them forward to a 2027 until GM does. On the truck itself, the last word is always the same: the trailering information label in the driver door jamb carries the tongue weight, conventional, gooseneck, and fifth-wheel ratings for that specific VIN. That label is standard on every Sierra 3500 HD. If you are weighing an order against a rated truck sitting in our yard, the buy now or order a 2027 post puts both columns side by side. How to Spec Wheels and Tires on a 2027 Sierra 3500 HD Dually Order There is less to decide than there used to be, which is the good news. Work through it in this order and you will not paint yourself into a corner. Commit to the dually first: dual rear wheels require a long bed and the 14,000-pound GVWR, and they rule out the AT4. That choice drives the wheel, not the other way around. Pick the trim and let the wheel follow: a Pro dually lands on 18-inch painted steel, and an SLE, SLT, Denali, or Denali Ultimate dually lands on the 18-inch polished forged wheel with no extra line on the order. Add the Max Trailering Package early if you want it: on a Pro it brings the polished forged wheel and the LT235/80R18 tire with it, and it remains a 2WD Regular Cab dually Duramax option, so it cannot be bolted on later. Count your spare into the plan: the 2027 dually spare is an 18-inch, so a spare carried on a trailer or in a shop for an older 17-inch dually will not cross over. Ask your tire shop to stock the size: give them the LT235/80R18 before the truck lands, especially if you run more than one dually and want a matched set on hand for harvest. Read the door-jamb label the day it arrives: compare the trailering information label to the trailer you already own before you hook to anything, and set your cold pressures from the placard rather than from the last truck. Is the 18-Inch Change a Reason to Order a 2027 Dually? Worth it if Skip it (buy a rated 2026 dually) if You run more than one dually and want every truck on one tire size You want the polished forged wheel on an SLE or SLT without adding it You are tired of chrome wheel skins and the caps that go with them Your order can build over the winter in the color and package you want You need a published trailer rating and payload figure before you sign Calving or a snow contract needs the truck in the yard this fall You already stock 17-inch dually tires and just replaced a full set You want to drive, weigh, and scale the exact truck before you buy it Key Takeaways The 17-inch dually wheel, its painted caps and chrome skins, the LT235/80R17E tire, and the 17-inch spare are all gone for 2027. Every 2027 Sierra 3500 HD dually rides on 18-inch wheels: silver painted steel on the Pro, polished forged aluminum on the SLE, SLT, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. LT235/80R18 is now the only dually tire, so one size and one spare cover the whole lineup. The single-rear-wheel wheel and tire ladder is unchanged; 20-inch wheels stay single-rear-wheel only and there are still no 22-inch wheels. No 2027 towing or payload rating has been published; the dually GVWR stays at 14,000 pounds and the door-jamb label is the final word on any truck. Frequently Asked Questions Are 17-inch wheels still available on a 2027 GMC Sierra 3500 HD dually? No. The 17-inch painted steel dually wheel, its painted center caps, its chrome wheel skins, the LT235/80R17E tire, and the 17-inch spare are all absent from the 2027 listing. Every 2027 dually is built on 18-inch wheels. What tire size does a 2027 Sierra 3500 HD dually use? LT235/80R18, in an all-terrain tread, on all six wheels, with a matching 18-inch spare. It is the only dually tire GM lists for 2027, so a Pro work truck and a Denali Ultimate take the same tire. Can I order a 2027 Sierra 3500 HD dually with 20-inch or 22-inch wheels? No. The 20-inch wheels are offered on single-rear-wheel trucks only, the same as in 2026, and no 22-inch wheel is offered anywhere on the Sierra 3500 HD. A dually is an 18-inch truck for 2027. Does the 18-inch wheel raise the 2027 towing or payload rating? Unknown, because GM has not published 2027 towing, payload, or GCWR figures yet; they will appear in the GM Trailering Guide. The dually GVWR stays at 14,000 pounds for 2027. Every rating on a delivered truck is printed on the trailering information label in the driver door jamb, and we read it with you before you hook to anything. My Take on the End of the 17-Inch Dually This is a small change that makes a working truck easier to own, and those are my favorite kind. One tire size across the whole dually lineup means one size on the shelf, one spare that fits any corner, and no chrome skins to fight with on a cold morning. The SLE and SLT buyers come out ahead twice, because the wheel they used to pay extra for now comes with the truck. What I will not do is turn a wheel change into a capability story. Until GM publishes the 2027 ratings, the truck with numbers you can take to the scale is the 2026 sitting in our yard, and we keep rated Sierra 3500 HDs in stock. If you are matching a truck to a trailer that is already close to the line, buy the rated one. If you are replacing a truck next spring and you want a specific color, cab, and package, order the 2027 and let it build over the winter. Sierra 2500 HD Pro vs SLE: Building a Work Truck for Mobridge Contractors and Welders

The welders, fencing crews, well-pump outfits, and siding contractors who buy trucks from us do not shop the way a Denali buyer shops. They want to know what the floor is made of, whether the bed will carry a welder and a fuel tank without squatting, and whether the truck will start at 2 a.m. in February. The 2026 GMC Sierra 2500 HD answers those questions with its two bottom trims, and the Pro and the SLE are more different than they look. Short answer: the Pro is the truck you order when the bed does the work and the cab just has to be durable: vinyl floor, a 7-inch screen, every cab, and a two-wheel-drive option. The SLE is the truck you order when the cab is also your office: carpet, the 13.4-inch screen, a bigger camera and safety menu, and 4WD only. Both take the 6.6L gas V8 or the Duramax, both take the power take-off transmission with the Duramax and 4WD, and a Regular Cab long bed gas truck in either trim carries up to 4,049 pounds, properly equipped. The Pro is the fleet and jobsite trim: vinyl floor, a 7-inch screen, a 3.5-inch driver display, and the widest range of configurations, including two-wheel drive. The SLE is the first trim that feels like a personal truck: carpet, cloth, the 13.4-inch screen with Google built-in and the 12.3-inch driver display, and 4WD only. Both share the same frame, engines, 10-speed, bed, and trailering equipment. 2026 Sierra 2500 HD Pro SLE Cabs and drive Regular, Double, or Crew Cab; 2WD or 4WD Regular, Double, or Crew Cab; 4WD only Floor and seats Vinyl floor; Jet Black vinyl or cloth Carpet; Jet Black or Dark Walnut and Slate cloth Screens 7-inch with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto; 3.5-inch driver display 13.4-inch with Google built-in; 12.3-inch driver display Wheels 17-inch machined aluminum; painted steel on fleet orders 17-inch; 18-inch with the X31 Off-Road Package Tailgate Standard; EZ Lift with the Convenience Package Standard; EZ Lift with the SLE Value Package 4WD transfer case Two-speed push-button Two-speed push-button Available safety package Park assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Change Alert, trailer mirrors Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, park assist; Crew and Double Cab add Bed View, HD Surround Vision, trailer camera provisions Engines 6.6L gas standard; Duramax available 6.6L gas standard; Duramax available The two-wheel-drive Pro is the sleeper. For a shop truck that lives on US 12 and the paved streets of Mobridge, a 2WD Regular Cab long bed gas Pro is the lightest, highest-payload Sierra 2500 HD you can buy. For anybody who turns off onto a county section line in January, 4WD is not optional, and the SLE's 4WD-only rule stops being a limitation. Both trims get the full Sierra HD Pro Safety suite, including Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking. The whole seven-trim ladder is in the 2026 Sierra 2500 HD buyers guide; this post stays on the two trims a working outfit actually orders. Which Sierra 2500 HD Carries the Most Weight in the Bed? The Regular Cab long bed with the 6.6L gas V8, at 4,049 pounds of payload, properly equipped. The same truck with the Duramax carries 3,811 pounds, because the diesel and its dual batteries weigh more. Every step toward a bigger cab and 4WD trades payload for seats and traction. Configuration (Pro or SLE) Max payload, 6.6L gas Max payload, Duramax Conventional towing Regular Cab long bed 4,049 lb 3,811 lb 14,500 lb Crew Cab long bed 2WD (Pro only) 3,863 lb 3,654 lb 16,000 lb gas / 18,500 lb Duramax Crew Cab long bed 4WD 3,812 lb 3,566 lb 16,000 lb gas / 18,500 lb Duramax Crew Cab standard bed 4WD 3,707 lb 3,463 lb 16,000 lb gas / 18,500 lb Duramax Double Cab long bed ask us for the label ask us for the label 16,000 lb gas / 17,600 lb Duramax 4WD Here is the math the way a welder should run it, for illustration only. A skid welder at 1,200 pounds, two loaded toolboxes at 400, a bottle rack and leads at 300, and a 200-pound driver put 2,100 pounds on a Crew Cab long bed 4WD gas truck rated 3,812. That leaves about 1,700 pounds for a transfer tank, a generator, and a helper. The Duramax version at 3,566 gives up 250 pounds of that margin before you hook a trailer. Those weights are examples; weigh your rig on the elevator scale and replace them. The 10,000-pound GVWR option The Sierra 2500 HD's gross vehicle weight rating runs from 10,000 pounds to 11,900 pounds on a Crew Cab Duramax with the Max Trailering Package. The C7A Lowered GVWR option holds it at 10,000 pounds for buyers whose insurance or licensing is simpler under that number; it is offered on Pro and SLE, not on AT4 or AT4X. Either way, the trailering information label in the driver door jamb of your specific truck prints the payload and GVWR that apply to it. What Is the PTO Transmission, and Who Around Mobridge Needs It? The PTO option is a version of the 10-speed automatic with an integrated power take-off, a driven gear that lets a hydraulic pump run off the transmission while the truck idles. It is available only on the Pro and SLE, only with the Duramax, and only with 4WD. Around here it goes under bale beds, hoists and dump bodies, wreckers, and well-service rigs. A bale bed is the one we sell the most. A cow-calf outfit that feeds through March wants to pick up and unroll a round bale from the cab without a tractor, and a PTO-driven pump does that. The same setup runs a hoist on a gravel or fencing truck. The upfitter installs the pump and body; the truck has to arrive with the PTO transmission in it, because it cannot be added later. The Duramax requirement decides the engine for a lot of contractors who would otherwise buy the gas V8. If you need the PTO, the choice is made; if you do not, the Duramax-versus-gas post lays out the case for each on a work truck. The 470-horsepower, 975-lb-ft diesel also brings the 220-amp alternator, dual batteries, the exhaust brake, and the block heater, all of which a service truck uses every week. The MultiPro tailgate is standard on SLT and up. Pro and SLE run the standard tailgate, with EZ Lift on the Convenience Package or the SLE Value Package. Which Packages Are Worth It on a Pro or SLE Work Truck? On the Pro, check the Convenience Package; on the SLE, the Value Package covers what a working truck uses daily, and the Preferred Package adds the trailering cameras and adaptive cruise for the outfit that tows every day. Package Trim What it adds Convenience Package (PCI) Pro EZ Lift tailgate, tinted glass, LED cargo lighting, rear defogger, trailering mirrors SLE Convenience Package (PCQ) SLE Dual-zone climate, 10-way power driver seat, tilt and telescoping column, LED fog lamps, roof marker lamps SLE Value Package (PDU) SLE Everything in PCQ plus spray-on bedliner, the SLE Heated Package, and remote start Preferred Package (PDQ) SLE In-Vehicle Trailering App, Hitch View, adaptive cruise control, LED cargo lighting, sliding rear window The trailering mirrors are the reason to order the Pro Convenience Package even if you never use the EZ Lift; a Regular Cab pulling a 20-foot equipment trailer needs them. On the SLE, the Value Package beats the Convenience Package alone because the spray-on bedliner and remote start are things you would add anyway, and a heated seat at 20 below is not a luxury when the truck is your office. The Preferred Package is the one to think about. Hitch View lets one person drop a ball onto a coupler without a spotter, and the Trailering App runs a light check from the screen. If the truck tows daily, it pays for itself; if the trailer comes out twice a month, put the money toward the upfit. Can I Run a Welder, Hose Reel, or Service Body Off a Sierra 2500 HD? Yes. The Pro and SLE are built to be upfitted, and the factory provisions are the difference between a clean install and a truck full of spliced wiring. Upfitter switches, auxiliary battery provisions, and a high-idle setting are available for the Pro and SLE; ask us to confirm the exact codes for your build, because the right combination depends on the cab, engine, and body. Four items we can verify on the 2026 truck. The PTO transmission, covered above, for hydraulic bodies. The F60 heavy-duty front spring, listed as the camper package, for a truck that carries a constant load such as a service body or a slide-in; it cannot be combined with the Snow Plow Prep Package, so a plow truck and a service-body truck are usually two different orders. The C7A Lowered GVWR option, for the 10,000-pound rating. And the VYU Snow Plow Prep Package, which brings a 220-amp alternator, a higher front axle rating, skid plates, a dash pass-through grommet, and roof emergency-light provisions to a gas truck that would otherwise have the 170-amp alternator. A few practical notes. The bed has 12 tie-downs rated 500 pounds each and is 21 inches deep, with 50.6 inches between the wheel wells on the long bed, so measure your welder skid against that before you order. A Regular Cab Duramax carries a 28-gallon tank and a Double Cab standard bed diesel 29 gallons; Crew Cabs and every gas truck get 36 gallons, which matters on a 300-mile service day. And bring the upfitter in before we order, so the alternator, springs, and switch provisions match the body. Will It Hold Up to a Snow Contract and a 24-Hour Call-Out Schedule? A snow contract from November to March is the hardest thing most of these trucks will do: hours of idling, short runs, a blade on the front, and a 4 a.m. start at 20 below. The Sierra 2500 HD is built for it if you order it for it: 4WD, the Snow Plow Prep Package, and, on the Duramax, the block heater that comes with the engine. The automatic locking rear differential is standard on both trims, the two-speed transfer case gives you low range for pushing a full blade, and the 220-amp alternator that comes with the Duramax or the plow package keeps the battery up with a blade, strobes, and a radio all pulling at once. A gas Pro without the package has a 170-amp alternator; a truck that plows for money should have the package. The winter and snow plow prep post covers the cold-start side in detail. Reliability for a single-truck operator is mostly a service question, and that is where buying here instead of in Pierre or Bismarck matters. Our shop at 2200 US Hwy 12 is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to noon, and a contractor who loses a truck for a week in June loses the month. For an outfit adding a second or third truck, Beadle Chevrolet GMC handles fleet purchases directly: matched builds, steel fleet wheels if you want them, one point of contact for the upfitter, and the same service line for every truck. Ask us about the fleet and business programs available when you order. How to Spec a Sierra 2500 HD Pro or SLE Work Truck Six decisions, in the order that keeps you from ordering the wrong truck. Weigh the load: put the welder, toolboxes, tank, and crew on the elevator scale, and add the tongue or pin weight of the heaviest trailer you pull. Pick the cab and drive: a Regular Cab long bed carries the most; a Crew Cab carries the crew. Choose 2WD only if the truck never leaves pavement, and remember the SLE is 4WD only. Decide on the PTO: if a hydraulic body is going on, the Duramax, 4WD, and the PTO transmission are settled. If not, weigh the gas V8's extra payload against the diesel's torque. Choose Pro or SLE: vinyl and a 7-inch screen for a truck the crew shares; carpet, the 13.4-inch screen, and the Value Package for a truck you drive every day. Match the provisions to the body: plow package or F60 spring, never both; upfitter switches, auxiliary battery provisions, and high idle as the body requires. Have the upfitter confirm the list with us before the order goes in. Read the label at delivery: check the payload and GVWR on the trailering information label in the driver door jamb, then weigh the finished truck with the body on it. Pro or SLE: Which One Belongs in Your Shop? Worth it if (order the Pro) Skip it if (order the SLE) The bed does the work and the cab gets muddy boots, a wet dog, and three different drivers You want a two-wheel-drive Regular Cab for the most payload You are buying matched trucks and want steel wheels and a vinyl floor The screen only needs to run CarPlay and a backup camera You drive the truck every day and the cab is your office between jobs You want the 13.4-inch screen, HD Surround Vision, and Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert You tow daily and want Hitch View and the Trailering App A heated seat, remote start, and a spray-on bedliner would go on the truck anyway Key Takeaways Pro: vinyl floor, 7-inch screen, Regular, Double, or Crew Cab, 2WD or 4WD. SLE: carpet, 13.4-inch screen, the same three cabs, 4WD only. The Regular Cab long bed gas truck carries the most, 4,049 pounds, properly equipped; a Crew Cab long bed 4WD carries 3,812 pounds gas or 3,566 pounds Duramax. The PTO 10-speed for bale beds and hoists is Pro and SLE only, and requires the Duramax and 4WD. Order the Pro Convenience Package for the trailering mirrors, the SLE Value Package for the bedliner, heated seats, and remote start, and the Preferred Package only if you tow daily. Verified upfit items are the PTO transmission, the F60 front spring, the C7A 10,000-pound GVWR, and the VYU plow package; ask us to confirm the codes for switches, auxiliary battery, and high idle on your build. Frequently Asked Questions Can I get a Sierra 2500 HD SLE in two-wheel drive? No. For 2026 the SLE is built as 4WD only, in Regular, Double, or Crew Cab. The Pro is the only Sierra 2500 HD trim offered in two-wheel drive, and a 2WD Pro Regular Cab long bed with the gas V8 is the payload leader at 4,049 pounds, properly equipped. Does the Sierra 2500 HD Pro come with a vinyl floor? Yes. The Pro has a vinyl floor with Jet Black vinyl or cloth seats, the setup a fencing or welding crew wants when three people and a dog share the truck. The SLE moves to carpet with Jet Black or Dark Walnut and Slate cloth; the X31 Off-Road and Protection Package on the SLE adds all-weather floor liners. Can the gas Sierra 2500 HD get the PTO transmission? No. The 10-speed with the integrated power take-off is offered only with the Duramax, only with 4WD, and only on the Pro and SLE. A gas truck can still run a bale bed or hoist from an upfitter-installed pump, but the factory PTO requires the diesel. Does Beadle Chevrolet GMC sell fleet trucks? Yes. We order and deliver matched Pro and SLE builds for contractors, ag operations, and municipalities across north-central South Dakota, coordinate with your upfitter before the order goes in, and service the whole fleet at 2200 US Hwy 12 in Mobridge. Call or text 605-845-7277 and ask for a fleet quote. My Take on the Pro and SLE as Work Trucks I like selling these two trims because the people who buy them know exactly what they need and do not want to pay for anything else. If the truck is a tool that three people drive, order the Pro with the Convenience Package for the mirrors and put the money into the body. If it is your truck, the one you sit in between jobs and drive home at night, the SLE with the Value Package is the better long-term buy, and it is still a work truck. The two things I would not skip on either one are 4WD if you ever leave pavement in winter, and a conversation with your upfitter before the order goes in. The PTO, the front spring, the plow package, and the switch provisions all have to be on the truck when it is built, and a truck ordered right the first time is the one still making money in its fourth winter. Buy a Rated 2026 Sierra 3500 HD Dually Now, or Order a 2027? A Mobridge Decision Guide

This is the question I get most often right now, usually standing in the yard beside a gooseneck. GM has shown what the 2027 GMC Sierra 3500 HD will carry for equipment, and there are real improvements in it. GM has not published a single 2027 towing, payload, or GCWR number. Meanwhile there are rated 2026 one-tons in our row with every figure already stamped in the door. So the decision is not really new truck versus old truck. It is a verified number versus a better equipment list, run against your calendar. If you want the 2027 change list first, the what-is-new-for-2027 post lays it out. This one is about which truck you should be signing for. View Sierra 3500 HD Inventory Get Pre-Qualified On This Page What is sitting on the lot right now What a 2026 tells you that a 2027 cannot yet What ordering a 2027 actually gets you The calendar test: when do you need the truck What is the same either way How to decide in one afternoon What Is Sitting on the Lot Right Now? One-ton trucks you can walk around today. On our lot as this is written we have two 2026 SLT Crew Cab long bed 4WD Duramax duallys, one Volcanic Red Tintcoat and one Summit White, and a 2026 Denali Crew Cab standard bed 4WD Duramax with single rear wheels in Onyx Black on the dark wheel package and all-terrain tires. That mix is not an accident. The SLT dually is the truck a cow-calf outfit or a hay operation ends up in once the loaded stock trailer or the 40-foot flatbed beats the payload of a three-quarter-ton, and the Denali single-rear-wheel is the quiet way to pull a big fifth-wheel and still park in the garage at home. If you are not sure which side of that line you fall on, the single-rear-wheel-or-dually post walks the trailer math and the shop door. Ask us for current pricing on any of them, because incentives move monthly and the window sticker is the honest place to have that conversation. What matters for this decision is that these trucks exist, you can scale them, and their trailering information labels are already printed. What Does a 2026 Tell You That a 2027 Cannot Yet? Every capability number. GM has published conventional towing, gooseneck towing, payload, GCWR, and curb weight for the 2026 Sierra 3500 HD by cab, bed, drive, engine, and rear-wheel count. For 2027 GM has published the equipment and the GVWR menu and nothing else; 2027 output and trailer ratings will be published in the GM Trailering Guide. What you are matching to a trailer 2026 on the lot 2027 on order Conventional tow rating Published; up to 20,000 lb with the Duramax Not published Gooseneck rating, Crew Cab long bed 4WD dually, Duramax 31,000 lb Not published Payload, that same dually 5,647 lb diesel, 6,378 lb gas Not published GVWR, dually 14,000 lb 14,000 lb, unchanged GVWR, single rear wheel ceiling 12,250 lb 12,700 lb Curb weight, so you can do your own math Published Not published Door-jamb trailering label Printed and on the truck Printed when the truck is built Those 2026 figures are properly equipped ratings and they belong to specific configurations, which is the whole point of the 2026 towing section. The 2WD version of that Crew Cab dually is rated a little higher at 31,440 pounds with a gooseneck, and a dually with a fifth-wheel hitch runs on a 32,000-pound combination ceiling instead. The gooseneck dually post runs the worked examples against a loaded stock trailer and a hay flatbed. Why this matters more at the one-ton Half-ton buyers can shop on feel. You cannot, because you are usually within a few hundred pounds of something. Whichever year you buy, read the trailering information label in the driver door jamb of that exact truck and weigh the loaded rig at a scale before you trust a number off any website, mine included. What Does Ordering a 2027 Actually Get You? Four verified improvements and the truck you actually wanted instead of the one in the row. Every 2027 dually rides on 18-inch wheels and LT235/80R18 tires, so a dually operation runs one tire size across six corners and the spare. Single-rear-wheel GVWR climbs 250 to 450 pounds on every configuration, to a ceiling of 12,700 pounds. Adaptive cruise control becomes standard on all six trims, Pro included. And the Technology Package, the rear camera mirror plus the head-up display, reaches the SLT for the first time. Two of those are worth real money to a working outfit. The one tire size is a parts-room simplification you feel at replacement time, and the camera mirror on an SLT is the piece I push hardest for anyone pulling a tall gooseneck, because a loaded trailer blanks a mirror and the camera sees past it. What a higher GVWR does and does not promise is its own conversation, and the 2027 GVWR post takes it apart. The other thing an order gets you is exactness. You pick the cab, the bed, the color, gooseneck prep, snow plow prep, dual alternators, upfitter switches, and the seat you actually want, instead of taking the nearest match. An order placed this fall typically builds and ships over the winter; ask us where the order bank sits before you count on a date. The full 2027 equipment detail is in the 2027 Sierra 3500 HD buyers guide. A dually is the same width in 2026 and 2027. Measure your shop door, your gate, and the car wash before the year on the title matters. The Calendar Test: When Do You Actually Need the Truck? This settles the question for most people faster than any spec sheet. Write down the first date the truck has to be working, then decide. A truck ordered this fall builds over the winter, and winter is exactly when a one-ton around here earns its keep. If you have a snow contract running November through March, a blade to hang, and beacons to wire, you want a truck in the yard now, not a build number. Same answer if calving starts in February and the truck is the feed rig and the vet run. Same answer again if your hay contract or a custom harvest commitment has you hooked to a gooseneck by June, because a spring build date leaves no margin if anything slips. Order the 2027 if the truck you have now will finish this winter honestly, if you are replacing on a planned cycle rather than a breakdown, or if you are adding a truck rather than swapping one. Pheasant opener in mid-October and the fall run are on the near side of that line; next summer's hay is comfortably on the far side of it. What Is the Same Either Way? More than most people expect, which is why this decision is lower-stakes than it feels. The six trims, the cab and bed rules, the dually rule that ties dual rear wheels to a long bed and the 14,000-pound GVWR, the AT4 staying single rear wheel, the Denali Ultimate staying diesel, and the Max Trailering Package rules are identical in both years. The working hardware carries over too: the hitch with 7-pin and 4-pin connectors, the integrated trailer brake controller, hitch guidance, the trailering information label, gooseneck prep on any trim, snow plow prep on any trim including duallys with 4WD, the exhaust brake and block heater with the Duramax, dual alternators, upfitter switches, and the power take-off transmission on a Pro or SLE diesel. All eight colors carry over with nothing added and nothing dropped. Financing is the same conversation in both cases, and you can get pre-qualified before you decide which year you are buying. Trade values do not wait on a model year either; bring the old truck by and we will number it now so the comparison is real instead of hypothetical. How to Decide in One Afternoon You do not need a spreadsheet. You need a scale ticket, a calendar, and an honest look at the trailer you actually pull. Weigh the loaded trailer and the pin: not the brochure weight, the real one, loaded the way you load it in October. Compare it to a rated truck: use the door-jamb label on a 2026 dually in our row. If you are inside its numbers with margin, the year on the title is a preference, not a requirement. Write down the first working date: snow contract, calving, hay, harvest. If that date is before spring, buy off the lot. List the equipment you would change: if the trucks here already have the cab, bed, prep, and drivetrain you need, the 2027 advantages are nice rather than decisive. Price both paths the same day: ask us for current pricing on a 2026 in stock and for an order sheet on a 2027, with your trade numbered on both. Decide on the number you can verify: if your rig is close to the limit, take the truck whose rating is already printed and hook to it this week. So Which One Should You Buy? Ordering a 2027 is worth it if Skip it and buy the rated 2026 if Your current truck honestly finishes this winter You run several duallys and want one 18-inch tire size You want a spec the lot does not have: cab, bed, color, prep You are an SLT buyer who wants the camera mirror You carry heavy single rear wheel and want the higher GVWR Your loaded rig is anywhere near the limit A snow contract, calving, or a hay commitment needs the truck first You want to scale and drive the exact truck before signing The dually in our row is already the cab, bed, and drivetrain you need You are replacing a truck that is already down Key Takeaways The 2026 Sierra 3500 HD duallys on our lot have published towing, payload, GCWR, and curb weight; the 2027 has none of those yet. A 2027 order brings 18-inch wheels on every dually, a 12,700-pound single-rear-wheel GVWR ceiling, standard adaptive cruise, and the Technology Package on the SLT. The dually GVWR, the trim ladder, the cab rules, the trailering hardware, and all eight colors are the same in both years. If your first working date is before spring, or your rig is close to the limit, buy the rated truck. Either way, the trailering information label in the driver door jamb is what you hook to, not a website. Frequently Asked Questions Will the 2027 Sierra 3500 HD tow more than the 2026? Nobody can tell you yet, because GM has not published a 2027 trailer rating. What is known is that single-rear-wheel GVWR rose and the dually GVWR did not. The rated 2026 Crew Cab long bed 4WD dually with the Duramax pulls up to 31,000 pounds with a gooseneck, properly equipped, and up to 20,000 pounds conventional. How long does it take to get a 2027 Sierra 3500 HD I order? An order placed this fall typically builds and ships over the winter, but I will not promise you a date, because order banks and build weeks move. Call or text 605-845-7277 and we will tell you where the window sits the day you ask. Is a 2026 Sierra 3500 HD dually going to feel dated next to a 2027? No. Same six trims, same cabs and beds, same frame and suspension rules, same trailering hardware, same interiors and screens, same eight colors. The visible differences are the dually wheel size and a few standard-equipment items, and a 2026 SLT dually with gooseneck prep does the same work on the same roads. Should I order a 2027 if I want a two-wheel-drive crew cab dually with the Duramax? That combination is not on the 2027 list as GM has it today; the Duramax is shown on 4WD models and the 2WD Regular Cab. If a 2WD crew dually with the diesel is what you want, a 2026 is the straightforward answer, or order the 2027 as a 4WD. My Take on Buying Now Versus Ordering For most of the people I sell one-tons to, the rated 2026 is the right answer this fall, and it is not close. You are hauling at capacity, your first working date is on the near side of spring, and a printed door-jamb label is worth more to you than an 18-inch wheel you would have grown into anyway. The people who should order are the ones buying on a plan instead of a breakdown: the outfit standardizing a fleet on one tire size, the SLT buyer who wants the camera mirror, the operator who wants a specific cab, bed, and prep combination that nobody stocks. That is a good order to place, and I will happily write it. Read the 2027 GMC Sierra 3500 HD buyers guide and the 2026 buyers guide side by side, then come see the trucks.
